BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Well, my local exchange was supposed to be March 2015, now it has been pushed back to the end of June. Here's hoping, because 8Mb/s down and basically nada upload is bloody useless.

I feel your pain. I have been checking the status of my local exchange now and then. First it was listed as Dec 2014, then March 2015, and now it is back to June 2015. Starting to think it is not going to happen.

I started with March 2013 and now showing as March 2015 (with 1 day left) - almost certain to get bumped back again for the 7th time. Cabinets are in place, exchange is enabled as others in my area have had it for months now.

It's pathetic -
Super-Fast fibre broadband goes live in Prestwick

Upgrade hailed by John Scott MSP and Brian Donohoe MP as more than 6,300 local homes and businesses set to benefit from BT’s £2.5 billion roll-out

Super-fast broadband has arrived in Prestwick, BT announced today

That's from an article dated March 2014!!

Pretty much the same as mine except mine just changed from march 2015 to march 2016 the other day.

We have a cabinet at each end of our street and they're the only two not to have gone live with the rest of the town in 2014. There's always roadworks planned by BT at or near the cabinets but never seems to make any difference.

And if my BT experience couldn't get anymore worse.....

Thank you for your patience . There has been a service outage on your line. It has affected all the customers in your area .A team of BT is already working to fix it . As of now the target resolution time is 01-Apr-2015 07:00:00

So i'm now using a BT Wifi Hotspot that's luckily outside my house.....I absolutely regret going with BT.

Check out roadworks.org Booyaka. Search by postcode to see if any works are planned.

Thanks - nothing showing at all on there.

I have email both local MP's that hailed the Fibre coming in March 2014, and also Gavin Paterson at BT who is Chief Executive Officer of BT's Retail division. I'm not holding my breath on any response but getting utterly fed up with no-one knowing anything about what is happening.

Also Digital Scotland have not bothered replying at all either!

Edit 10.27 - Response from my MP already wanting to call me to discuss!!! My god! An MP that actually listens!!

I saw the roadwork plans and the BT guys put in an extra cab near me at the start of December. I've been checking if superfast is available frequently on the website only to be told "Coming Soon". It's now just changed to accepting orders, so 4 months in total.

You'd swear he was up for re-election or something? ;)

I found Bill Murphy @watchingtheflow on Twitter as a good point of contact for queries.

So Telford just signed a superfast deal apparently, from the bad quality map looks like my area is on phase 1, so hoping that means i am due to get Fibre some time this year...

They are yet to mention dates, but my exchange has been at "Under Review" on the openreach checker for a year now, but on there rollout pdf it states FTTC is available now.

Can only sit and hope i can get better then my 5Mbps line soon.

So BT lied when they said my whole street is affected....It's just me, my neighbour who's on BT was still up, they've said on the service status thing that everything is resolved, but surprise surprise, mine is still down.

So i've gone from a week of perfect 76/18 speed to nothing, then lower than infinity 1 speeds to nothing, to slightly better than infinity 1 speeds with rubbish pings to nothing (Well, BT wifi hotspot with 1.75/0.5 speeds).

Absolutely regret going with BT.

Well - local MP has just called me and will speak to Head of Customer Relations at BT about it. He called it embarrassing that he was announcing the deal over a year ago and still nothing happening. He will get them to contact me directly. I await with baited breath......

Fingers crossed for you bud. FYI, Bill Murphy is BT's Managing Director of Next Generation Access.

Because it's going to New York.
100-130ms is the best you're going to get on a consumer connection to NY.

Everything else within the UK seems fine.

I remember back in ~2003 when they put in the new LINX connection from London to NY - was pinging 79ms to game servers hosted on the east coast US :D sadly once there was any volume of traffic over the link it was upto ~100-110ms.

And to further add to my anger towards BT, rang them up yesterday, My case was that "important" that it was being esculated to Tier 2, its THAT important they're gonna ring me back next Tuesday.............I'm done.

2003.. I couldn't get out of triple figure latency haha.

Speaking of LINX.. Virgin have issues with their connection being saturated at LINX at the moment (past few weeks actually). Packet loss and avg 150ms. So it could be worse for us BT folk :p

Been with BT Infinity 80/20 for a few years now and its been a rock solid 79999/19999 connection with a ping of 15ms

Couple of weeks ago it changed to 70000 and 16000 with a ping of 25ms

The speed has gone up to 76000 now but my ping is still 25ms

I spoke with BT and they don't think anything is wrong; they mentioned I could request an engineer but may have to pay £120 (no thanks!) if they find nothing wrong....

Any ideas what I should do?

I notice that to get bt infinity you need to have a phoneline with bt as well? Is this a technical reason? Does your fibre branch off from the telephone line outside your property?
