BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

As I said - I read the same thing on more than one forum.
I do not neccessarily believe everything I'm told - who would? However the posts came from people with a long history on the forums.
I will go and find some of those posts if I can.

Reading it was all to do with "controlled" and unexpected shutdowns. So a dropped connection due to instability would potentially trigger DLM however a controlled, switch-off of the device via power button would not.

As said, I will try to find a couple of the posts in question. However as you've totally rubished this, maybe I can save myself the trouble. I'll assume you are something to do with an ISP or have some knolwedge on this due to work?
That's the thing about information, it's only as good as the person giving it. So someone with actual knowledge would win hands-down and then I can put this incorrect information I've been given to bed once and for all!

Facebook is now at a point where it's unusable. Have to go on my phone 4G if I want to go on it..
Pictures taking ages to load and videos take about 4 refreshes before they start playing..

Then you read a load of rubbish, there is nothing that clever built in to the routers/btor modems. If you hit approx 10 resets in a 24 hr period then DLM will kick in, it collects stats every 15 mins

One of the early ADSL ITU standards included "Dying Gasp" which allowed a ADSL router to send a message to the DSLAM that local power had been lost.

This thread on Kitz seems to confirm the HG612 and ECI VDSL modem send Dying Gasp packets.

Still getting it on and off - reconnecting seems to help but after awhile it will start becoming intermittent again.

hi guys can you help, BT Wholesale adsl checker says i can now get FTTP but not FTTC. The cab i am connected to is the same as someone i know round the corner and when i put in his house number (same post code) he gets the FTTC option and the FTTP option.

Any ideas why?

My infinity 2 is due to be activated this Friday and am looking to use a different router than the HomeHub. I am looking at either the Billion 8800NL or the TP-Link TD-W8890. Is there any reason to choose one over the other?

Billion 8800NL only has 1 Gigabit ethernet port & 3 10/100 ports.

TP-Link TD-W9980 has 4 Gigabit ethernet ports and dual band wifi.

After finally getting my faulty (constantly rebooting) HH5A replaced by a HH5B, my Infinity 2 has still not come back to its previous speed (was mid to late 70's).

Any ideas, its now been up long enough for DLM to sort itself out (or has it)?

There's a difference between native FTTP and Fibre on demand.

Whats the difference then KIA? From what i understand you have to be connected to a FTTC cab to even have a chance of getting this, the problem being the checker is telling me i cant get FTTC even though i know i can as we are all connected up to the same cab to people who can get it...

Homehub 5 just died. Using terribly slow internet on phone. Need net back for work so no time to faff aroubd with BT. Can someone recommend a good router and modem to replace the homehub please?

In praying I can get an order in tonight

We got BT Infinity 2 installed a few weeks ago as our new place is being refurbed. I briefly connected it at the start and was syncing 78-79. It's been off for a while and fired it up today to check the cat6a we had laid throughout. Now it's syncing at 67, but says attainable 80.

Is this because the line hasnt had the opportunity to "learn" etc as it hasn't been on at all? Setup is a HG612 connected to AC87U

Def nothing to do with rewiring as BT removed all sockets and installed a sole new master socket for us, which is untouched

Interesting, how did you get a HH5A replaced with a HH5B?

My HH5A keeps restarting itself with the mysterious:
