BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I'm getting fiber drop-outs about 5 or 6 times a day. It's starting to really!"£$%! me off. Before the last update the event log would record the fact that the box was shutting down and pulling the internet connection. After the update (Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204 (Type A) Last updated 17/01/15 - 4. Board version: BT Hub 5A) it no longer actively records the reboots! If I get rid of this crappy Home Hub 5 will it cure the drop outs or is it an external prob?

Interesting, how did you get a HH5A replaced with a HH5B?

My HH5A keeps restarting itself with the mysterious:

(737247.730000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]

HEADRAT

Lots of persistence and arguing with BT.

They agreed to send me a replacement HH, then sent a HH4, then sent 4 other HH5a's, each I returned, after arguing on the phone I wanted the newest model. (took ages for BT to acknowledge a B revision actually existed)

Anyway, end result - I have a 5B, it's stable, but my Infinity speed hasn't improved (in fact it's getting worse) - I think I'm going to have to take the plunge and get a decent 3rd party router, at least then I get proper line stats.

A month later my order for Infinity is still on-going.. :(

I signed on 15th May my activation date is this Monday coming up but I have to question if BT even know what they're doing, their communication with me & their departments is appalling...

Tried to change delivery date of HH5 which they said they will do as they couldnt tell me if its coming RM or PF delivery but said they changed the date to the requested date I asked for when I'm off work which they didn't do but luckily it came via RM when I was at work and fit through my letterbox

I signed up and was told no need for engineer visit as I'm currently on standard Talktalk broadband and I have a line, they do it all from their end. this morning I get an email saying I have an appointment set up with an engineer for 8am-1pm on Monday and I should be in as they need access :s
I contact live chat they confirmed it then decided to call me and transfer me around and their orders department said its an automatic email and told me not to worry I wont need to be at home it's all done outside...

Confused now, one person saying i need to be at home another sayin I don't.. do they know what they're doing????

^ If it is an infinity install then you will need to be home cause they have to connect it at there end then come round your house and check to see if your using old cable that they might need to replace and give you the new master socket's and then check to see if everything is working okay.

Even if you had had a infinity grade service before i rather doubt they would not need to visit to check the service/install new tech.

I would fully expect no one to attend the property as the HH5 has a VDSL modem built in which allows you to connect it up yourself using filters as you normally would with a DSL modem.

Engineer assisted installs are generally only done when an ISP is still using an Openreach VDSL standalone modem and their own Router. As the HH5 has a VDSL modem built in they will expect Noel to connect it up himself.

I have perhaps the worst fibre possible, BT won't upgrade my local cabinet so I am on the cabinet 1.8 miles away getting less than 10 down 0.5 up. I did speak to an engineer friend and he said as far as BT are concerned you have fibre and that's that. Sucks really, hoping one day they pull their finger out their proverbial and do something about it.

What speeds were you getting on ADSL?

Looking at the last few pages it seems that it's more negative than positive?

Isn't that to be expected? People aren't going to post each day saying there is nothing wrong and everything is working fine.

Also compare the number of people with problems in this thread against the number of people on Infinity (here)

The national UK telecoms operator, BT, has today published the latest results for Q1-2015 (calendar) and confirmed that their retail business added +121,000 new broadband subscribers in the quarter (up from +119k in Q4 2014) to total 7,713,000, which includes 3,010,000 on BTInfinity

That's a bit of a shame, you'd expect a greater improvement than that. I'm on 3.5Mbps ADSL at the moment, new cabinets installed in my village at the end of my road a few weeks back, but no signs of them being activated for fibre yet. Frustrating.
