BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Moving from Sky to Plusnet has meant my sync speed has dropped from ~60meg to 47meg (different line card/port at the cab?). Plusnet have confirmed it's not DLM causing it - is there anything I can do to get it back to where it was?

Same modem being used by me (HG612), is it worth trying a different one?

Code:
Downstream Upstream
Attainable rate (kbit/s)47040 17323
SNR margin (dB) 6.3 6.2
Line attenuation (dB)	18.7 0
Output power (dBmV)	13.9 7.5

Couple for questions for all

is there any good unlimited fibre broadband companies apart from sky and plusnet ?

if i went with post office phone line(cheapest ive found), is there any fibre companies that can provide broadband only.

Which isps in the uk dont use reverse proxy dns. also I would like to use my third part router which i have pfsense firewall installed. Do most companies allow third party routers. I think plusnet do but sky doesnt and requires messing around with mac address etc.

thanks in advance

bump. any idea please

the line rental of these providers are becoming ridicolous. Im thinking to move to zen but they are expensive.

Just thought i would give BT a ring and see if they could reduce my bill a little, they managed to reduce it from £45 a month to £32. I set this up about 8 years ago when i moved into this property and never even thought of checking if i could get it cheaper from them. Anyway just thought i would mention it incase any of you guys wanna give it a go, im not interested in leaving BT as every other time ive switched in the past ive recieved poorer service from other companies, but its nice to know they will give me discounts even though they know im not going anywhere.

I've been having random outages with BT Infinity for the last two weeks or so. For hours at a time, usually in the afternoon, we get the dreaded flashing orange light of death, then it comes back again. Speeds have been down from a peak 35-38mbps to around 15-20 too.

Been on the phone after it went again today, went through all the motions, testing the socket etc but it was still the same. I tried using a spare filter too incase. They concluded it was a faulty router/hub and have sent out a replacement but I'm not so sure that's the issue, we've only been with BT Inifinty since December.

I had that, last week my connection was dropping, the speed was still staying at 80 mbits but the hub would just randomly give up, mine was a faulty hub too, luckily they sent me out one of the new ones, i just had to pay postage for it.

Jesus I caught that well ordered 300mb fttp yesterday as bt had it for 30 quid a month and today it's gone back up to 52.50!!!!! Even when I spoke to the bt ordering dept they said the staff were even shocked it was priced for the last week the same as 76mb

Went to see the new house yesterday as its a new build property. It has FTTP. As we are currently with BT, it should be a case of once we have a date, we just need to ring BT to get the line activated and service upgraded to the 300MB?

Erm, I would say don't get excited... it took my new build almost 4 months to get connected with daily complaining and forcing the developers (3 of them) to have meetings to find out where the blocked ducting issues were.

I managed to get the number of the open reach site rep, emailed the OR CEO office, moaned at my developer and hassled the OR guys whenever I saw one on site.

The first thing I would chase is making sure the ONT kit is installed in the house.

My replacement hub arrived this morning, less than 24 hours after being on the phone with them which is pretty good. Not lost connection on the new one yet either so I hope that's solved it.

I gave them a call on Friday when I got in from work.

The guy ran his tests from India and claimed there is no issue whatsoever with the speed to the test socket and therefore the issue must be with the microfilter being used to connect to the router to the test socket.. I then mentioned there was a speed issue when it was plugged directly into the faceplate without a filter and he said both the faceplate and microfilter must be faulty.. Despite it being a brand new faceplate and a microfilter that worked fine when the Internet was working previously.

He was adamant that all he could do was send a new microfilter and I have to try this before it can go any further. Should have lied and said I had a spare filter to test with but didn't think of it at the time. I'll play ball and test the new filter when it comes which clearly won't make a difference then I'll escalate things.

So the replacement microfilter arrived yesterday so I did the decent thing and tested it before giving them an angrier call. Thankfully this guy was far more helpful and told me almost off the bat after running his tests that the speed we were receiving was ~200Kb/s which is clearly less than the absolute minimum guaranteed speed which is ~500 and still significantly lower than the lowest expected speed of 1Mb (but who is gonna settle for either of those anyway...).

He had no explanation for it though so engineer is coming out on Monday (between 8am and 6pm ).... Will see what he says!

I'll be expecting some serious money off the bill considering I had no internet at all for nearly 2 months and now this.

Already have confirmation of where its being installed (cupboard under the stairs)
