BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

So Gfast is now live - apparently by line I'm around 300M from the cabinet which is a bit shocking as its around 200 max by road by can't be helped.
Engineer said I'm the first connected to the pod and I'm getting around 170 down and 35 up too 190 down and 40 on speedtests.
Most impressive thing? the ping woah down to around 3 - 4 ms:

Will see how it holds up if more people take up the service.

**bt wholesale speedtest estimate was around 260 down and 45 up - apparently it leaves the pod at 330 so if your not around 100 m or so i dont think you'll see the top speeds**

Has anyone upgraded to BT Plus? I can't work out if it's a good deal or not.

I'm currently paying £32.49 for Infinity 1 and weekend calls, plus £24 for 3x 3GB Family SIMs. BT Plus seems to offer faster broadband and weekend calls for £39.99 (for 18 months), and double mobile data on the £24 plans... so 3x 6GB Family SIMs? Is this right?

Where are all these G.fast pods popping up? Being in the south east pretty close to London I'd have thought we'd get it pretty quickly but no sign of them at all. :/

Hi all,

so,how do I disable IPv6 on a home hub 5?

Cheers.

All good, did it client side instead, couldn't see any way to change the settings on the home hub itself.

I just got my email to say I could upgrade to Superfast Fibre Plus, I got all excited thinking its the 100mb+ speed. Its reads like you will get a faster speed but its utter rubbish sales blurb. Its definitely not Ultrafast (100mb/300mb) product either. So if I claim the offer through My BT page it will cost me an extra £3 to get the exact same service I do now. According to the blurb. However I pay £48.99 for Superfast Fibre 2 Unlimited (was Infinity 2). So if I follow the order through it comes out as £59.49 per month. Which is not £3 more!

However if on the same MyBT page I go to view my package, then Broadband then upgrade your broadband it says I`m paying £56.49 a month, which I`m not and it says its offering me to upgrade for £5 more to £61.49. For the exact same service. So I get where the £3 more comes from earlier but I`m not paying £56.49 I`m paying £48.99. Clearly says so on my bill. Depending on which link I click on its either £3 or £5 more.

I can see why they are offering it as my current package no longer exists and they are trying to get people to change but the pricing incentive is crazy! My current speed is 63MB so its not like it will get any faster!

- in fact I just went through as a new customer and it offered me Super Fibre 2 Unlimited which is what I am on now for £45.99 inc £140 BT Reward card ! So there is the odd difference, like if your broadband goes down they send you out a "4g Mini hub" till your broadband is fixed, which may take upto 5 days to be delivered.........

That's expensive, I pay £13.99 for Plusnet 80/20 or whatever they call it along with the yearly line rental saver which is £197.88 so an effective monthly price of £30.48. I get 67 down and 18 up. I'm fairly certain I could have had it cheaper as well however I didn't bother to push too hard as my cabinet is full and I didn't want to end up in a situation of no broadband.

BT isn't cheap but they have to pay for Champions League somehow ;)

Plusnet dont include a TV package though which I get for free and a few other benefits. If it wasnt for this I would probably shop around.

I upgraded to BT Plus it's worth it alone just for the mobile double data, faster 4G and UK call centre.

What annoys me is that I'm on a new build estate. Houses that are literally a stones throw from mine get FTTP yet I can't get it. So frustrating.

That is on virgin media cable, i am looking at migrating away from virgin to sign up with zen.

Any recommendations currently for VDSL modems (not router)? Just got PlusNET FTTC and don't want to use their device as is, but apparently it can;t be put in Modem Mode (Will likely be a Meraki or virtual firewall behind it)

Before BT come out and charge me £130 to look at my line I have a question.

It started over the weekend Wi-Fi was going up and down. then I noticed the internet was intermittent and was disconnecting.

Then I discover that there is crackling on my phone line. ( I don't use it often so wasn't aware)

As the router is plugged straight in to master socket and that was having issues that kind of indicates the issue isn't internal?

Although yesterday the problem was much better.

Can crackling on the line be caused by old micro filters?

Get a HG612 3B. Plenty of them on eBay but don't pay extra for an unlocked one as you can do that yourself.
