BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

This is what I'd do:

  1. Get a modified Solwise NTE5 faceplate. Fit this to the true master.
  2. Wire the extension you want to be the new master to the AB terminals on the rear of the modified faceplate (this will pass the signal through to the extension socket untouched). Regular BT faceplates don't offer this.
  3. Then, get another faceplate, whack this on your new extension, and wire the remaining extensions on the rear of this faceplate in the normal fashion.

E.g. Line -- Master --AB on faceplate -- Extension 1 --- regular "2 and 5" IDC terminals on second faceplate -- Extensions 2,3,4

Thanks for the help but I don't have the ability to start rewiring the sockets unfortunately, I have a slight complication of being in a wheelchair. I can't remember what the openreach engineer said exactly but my flat is wired in a way for telecoms which makes moving the master socket impossible. He mentioned he's come across this problem before in new builds.

I’ve now cancelled my BT order and won’t have any penalties to pay as the contract never started due to installation issues confirmed by BT Customer Services and The Infinity Team.

I can move back to o2 however I’ll be without net access until o2 process a new order for broadband and home phone. My existing o2 broadband service will no doubt cease to work at midnight.

I have the old BT Unlimited package. I have difficulty connecting to games on FIFA 11. I have been told that this is due to the BTHomeHub not being good for gaming.

Would the new BTHomeHub that comes with BT Infinity fix this issue?

Thanks

Right guys, I'm home and I'm barely hitting the 1mb/s :( Is there any point in ringing BT? I ask as it was only installed yday and I noticed on their site that it could take 10 days for the speed to settle etc.

Take the PC down stairs and connect using Ethernet to make sure the service is working correctly BEFORE you contact BT. If you get the specified 28Mbps then you know its your WiFi connection. If not Contact BT!

you need to test via ethernet cable.

This is my wireless test just now

and this is what I get when connected via ethernet

If it is because it's wireless then I'm fooked as I can't connect via ethernet as I'm not allowed to run a cable downstairs :(

Firstly theres no point progressing anything until you can at least test with wired, and secondly heres my wireless speeds, router is on the other side of the house, in a standard UK semi, using a crappy HH2 no less.

Just tell your Mum that you MUST test it with a cable to make sure its working properly.

Sorry but you need to do this otherwise its pointless going any further with this.

I understand this and I'm going to do it but I won't be able to have the cable there permanently. If the speed is faster with the cable, what can I do?

I can only suggest my own as its the only one i've used, but it gets me about round 30Mbps in real life situations, can't comment with use on a HH3 but my HH2 is limited to 130Mbps. It's an Edimax EW-7728In, apparently people don't rate it highly but it works for me.

Wireless isnt bad,

This is my wireless speedtest on my daughters pc, which is about 20ft away from the router, router is on the ground floor and pc on the first floor.

the wireless dongle is a cheap 300mbs one from eBay with a ralink chipset, connect arround 243mbs-300mbs.

I also tried a netgear wnda3200 which are very cheap from eBay and get the same results.

Just did the same test on my pc, which is on the second floor (3 story house) and get the same speeds.

BT has now arranged for an installation of the fiber for the 8th of august. My internet was disconnected on the 16th of July and now i have to be without internet for three weeks because of BT. I have to use the bt openzone which sucks. This is exactly similar to past experiences with BT. I can for see more problems with this one.

If you have your phoneline with another company when you order infinity, make sure you tell BT that and make sure they order a new line or prevent the other company from killing it.

Just to add mine to the pile:

Kaspersky disabled:

It seems kaspersky posions the ethernet port, occassionally blocking data while it intrudes on the processes. I'll be killing kasp before I game from now on thats for sure. Unfortuantely it'll still posion downloads and newsgroups.

I've got some pings and tracerts I'll try and get up some time today.
