BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Taking the mick a bit ? 1.5TB? How can you legally justify that mate and pay so little per month.Im glad your not on my local cab. And tbh and if you continue to rip the arse out of infinity then everyone else will soon find thier net being slowed to a crawl because of 0.1% of selfish people like you.

Seriously catch yourself on!

Steam games buddy.

They wouldn't of removed the FUP if the network couldn't handle it :). Pretty sure the cabinets are 10 GigE atleast? Me using 40Mbps wouldn't really effect you..

Hmm just checked on the BT infinity checker and it states that infinity is now available in my area.

however when i try to order i get the following message:

Sorry…

There's been a technical error – but you can still place your order online.
>To order a Broadband and Calls package with optional TV, click here
To add BT Vision to your existing BT broadband package, click here
To order a new phone line, click here
To switch your calls back to BT Click here
Ref# CON-0003

Does anyone know the sales telephone number as i will try and place an order over the phone instead of online.

update: originally ordered bt infinity june 13th. They should be setting it up tomorrow, i have taken my third day off work. Every step of the way had problems, not one aspect went smoothly. :/

Yesterday i got home to a parcel force miss delivery slip. Apparently they sent the router and fiber package to my house, (they said the engineer would bring it with him). Well i will not be able to collect the parcel from the depot before tomorrow morning. So i sent them an email asking if i even need the parcel because i already have one that they sent me about three weeks ago and it has a fiber port on it. I then asked if they could let me know if the current one is sufficient. I received this email as a response:

Hi ****,

The hub that has been sent is for your fibre service, this has been sent out free of charge from BT.

Regards,

Sharlene Wylie

I sent one back in size 72 font asking if they even read my email :D

So hopefully the guy can install the fiber without whatever is in the package. But i am not holding my breathe, I have no expectations, this way i won't be disappointed when BT fails again.

If you already have the home hub 3, then that is ok, If you don't it doesn't matter to much until you get it, as the openreach eng installs the modem anyway. so the installation will be ok.

BT engineer just left.

I had pfsense setup and the bt business router in bridge mode prior to the engineer arriving on the adsl setup. All the engineer did was plug in the new equipment and pfsense worked instantly.

Speed test

speed test through ssh tunnel 100mbit box in France.

I am very pleased with the result. Latency seems good and ssh tunnel performance appears excellent :D

Will do some tests with ql test latency. But looks ok so far.

Router arrived this morning, roll on the 12th :)

Oh groen I'll be picking your brains matey if you don't mind on getting mine setup prior to the engineer arriving esp. if it avoids any install cds :)

If you are have BT hub with a fiber port already set up with ADSL, then the openreach engineer just needs to plug in the fiber equipment and there will be no configuration required, as it uses the same configuration as adsl on the bt router.

Just doing some downloads with sftp and it is maxing out at 4.5mbyte a second. Which is even faster than the advertised 40mbit.

That went straight over my head like a plane :) I'll check the hub out later though. Cheers mate

I checked my are on that BT spreadsheet and it said my postcode and area was up and running for fttc, now every site i check says that it's not available!
aaaargh!
My parents live just down the road and have been enjoying their fibre connection for a good few months now.

requested a MAC code off my old isp (fast.co.uk) and they replied with

"Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you're looking to leave, we'll arrange to issue your MAC within 5 working days, as per Ofcom regulations.

We won't ever have prices close to BT's offering I'm afraid - they're trying to build a customer base on that service by offering it below market cost, but with a much longer contract, and non-UK support."

So do i have to wait for the MAC code to arrive before i can order BT infinity? Grrr I want to enjoy 4.0mb/s download goodness from ftps but seems i have to wait on old isp first to cough up a code.

no you can order BT Infinity now and once you have the MAC code just let BT know. The ISP has to supply you a MAC code within 5 days so the install of BT Infinity will be longer than that anyway.

ah that makes sense, thanks varka, will give bt infinity a ring now :)
