BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Steam down for anyone else here? Doesn't work on my home net (infinity), but works on my HSDPA.

Also, my speeds have slowly been increasing since install, need to test again but pretty sure I've gone from 28 mbps down to over 30 now, judging by download speeds.

Mana, I would go back to the OR modem for the initial 10 days, you should still be able to use the draytek as a router. Do you know the length of the line?

about 100ft, engineer did mention that he think i might be on aluminium lines rather than copper.

how do speeds increased, does your modem disconnect and reconnect at a higher sync speed or are you doing this manually?

Despite been an Ali line at that length you should see full speed. Although crosstalk will take some of it away as takeup increases.

btw if you go back to the OR modem or not leave it connected for the first 10 days.

I believe the modem is re-syncing itself automatically as it finds the fastest stable speed. It's not anything I've done, but it's definitely increased.

Does anyone here suffer from drop outs were the internet goes dead, sometimes for 10 minutes like it did on Thursday? My clients business has been suffering from this over the past few weeks and it happens nearly everyday which doesn't help when you have offices in other towns remotely connecting via terminal services.

I have changed the bt router/modem to a Daytek 2750n and the same thing happens.

Any suggestions what to do, to sort this mess out?

Cheers

Read the post again. :)
I presume your refering to this line:

Note that although some recent posters have referred to a 10-day training period as in the BT Wholesale DLMs, there is no mention of such here.

Ignor it, that part of the post is out of date and the author has since reversed their opinion based on info that come about after he posted that. That info is also on TB but I can't find it atm, the source is an ADSL24 representative that posts and is well known there so can be trusted. *EDIT* found the post. Link.

I was referencing the quotes from the SIN's by linking that thread which go into the finer detail of the DLM, I should have made it clear that sentance should be ignored though. :)

I do, whenever I look at the logs I can see my router is timing out trying to do PPOE authentication. I haven't bothered to look into further as it doesn't happen often enough for me to be bothered.

Line fault.

I am guessing however that I can only phone up tech support and get an engineer out to check the line or do a ip profile reset after the 10 day profiling period. Is that correct?

God I hope it goes back up as those India call centres sound like a nightmare

Ok BT Engineer just away and I've gone from:

Hoping it will increase a little as the BT guy using his testing equipment had a max readout of 40mb.

You should do a quiet line test. (http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t181.html)

You can also test your line from the BT website if I remember correctly.

Update: Had as promised a phone call form CEO office and I explained the speed, lovely lady is ringing back in three days as estimated speed was 32mb, she also informed me that all telephone calls I've been billed for todate will be removed and given 2 months free credit as a sorry from BT for all the hassle. TBH I am a little dropped on at the speed but then I say hold on you never dreamed you would have double figures never mind starting with a 2 :D

I'll keep you updated.
