BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Can anyone who has had Infinity installed tell me how invasive the process is?. Do they need to drill a hole in the wall to feed the connecting through?.

I'm asking this because we don't have a BT line here and the flats are Grade 2 listed and we cannot do anything to them. VM don't cable the area and we sit right between 2 exchanges so ADSL 2 speeds are a lousy 4.5Mb. Infinity is my only option but it can't be done if they have to drill through a wall :(

are there no signs of BT lines coming into any of the flats ?

Find it strange no one has a landline.

you are connection at 40Mbit down and 10Mbit up sync

your IP profile is 38717 which is the max.

The slow speeds is BT inability to cope with the speeds in your are like mine.

I struggle to get 10mbit after 6.

Hi Locky just to let you know I've not let the CEO peeps close my case yet as I've mentioned the speed issue. Had a phone call today explaining they are going to get the tech people to look into it and report back. I don't expect anything to improve as your explanation spells it out perfectly but it will be nice to hear what they have to say :) On a whole I can't grumble about my dealings with them (CEO) as they have been in constant contact thoughout and sorted me with 2 free months and £15 credit on the phone bill to date. :D

Just off phone again with CEO techy, he explained it just as Locky said so you have to respect the honesty if nothing else. :)

There possibly is, but to bring it from outside to our flat would require a hole to be put through the wall. I'm not able to have the phone service provider changed from UWC to BT so that would require a second line install that can't be done.

Just wondering how long it took from the due dates of your exchanges being activated until you could order infinity online? My exchange has been showing ininity available for a couple of weeks now on the BT website but the option isnt available for me to order, the chat team are next to useless with no knowledge of any of it really.

Having problems for the first time since it was put it - anyone else unable to get to the internet or going very slowly all of a sudden? Speedtest at BT still says 35mbps so I am assuming this is a problem on the BT network somewhere rather than my connection.

BT are having problems this afternoon - our helpdesk has gone nuts with calls from people who have BT Broadband connections.

problems here,

my internet was down for about one hour and my internet is really slow at the moment.

Exactly the same for me. My wife called me at work to ask for my help at about 1pm and it was totally down, though all lights were OK on the router and modem.

It suddenly came back up about 30 mins ago, but controlling my PC there through teamspeak I can see that browsing is super slow - 56k modem speeds.

The BT speedtester reports the speed is 35mbps though.

router was showing that bt phone was orange, but my internet was blue (connected) yet internet couldnt connect even after resets, and refreshing tcp ip

No problems here (Guildford). In fact, I'm loving my new BT Infinity connection. There was an 8 day delay for the installation, for which I have been compensated the immense sum of £10. However, now that it's all working, I've had no problems whatsoever. Torrents download at well over 1 MB/s at peak times and upload at 500 kB/s. Downloads from other sites easily max out the connection (4.75 MB/s is the highest I've seen) and uploading also appears to max out the connection (~1 MB/s), although it was a bit slow at first.

The only complaint I'd have is that the Home Hub 3 only has one Gigabit ethernet socket. Surely it would've only cost them another 10p or something to make all the ethernet sockets run at 1 Gbps, considering the electronics is already in there! I had to buy a gigabit switch for £20 to get full-speed transfers over the network. :/
