BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Ah, I guess my situation is different to yours then as I'm not going by the exchange Ready for Service date but by the BT checker which says:

with a 19mb estimate, its going to be about 1km 1.2km away, best thing to do is pm ADSL24 on thinkbb forums and ask them to give you you cab number and location

Still have not managed to sort out being incorrect billed for £200. BT billing refuses to change the bill. I must have repeated myself 5 times to billing now.

I saw absolutely no improvement on latency going from BE 9mbit ADSL2 to BT infinity. Playing quake live i see exactly the same latency as i did on ADSL2.

I found one on street view about a mile away so will take a look later.

So back to my original question, box idea when I can order?

Sorry to ask this if it's already been mentioned, but are there any particularly good deals for Infinity at the moment? Every month or so I get a call from BT telling me about it so they're obviously trying to get people on board, but my current deal with O2 is so good that it makes it hard to justify the cost.

Awesome, thanks. And I am assuming BT is pretty much the defacto choice?

Yep, IMO you can't go wrong with BT, ok ive had some issues, but the eng comes out the next day and it was fixed, from my experience of BT they have been spot on for me.

Okdokey - getting ready to possibly make the move to Infinity.
Just been looking around their site and the estimated speed for me is:

Download 33.5
Upload 10

I'm currently with Talk Talk, on the BT site it says they deal with existing providers, usually get to keep your number and they aim to have you moved within 10 days.

So the big question - is that actually realistic?
I'd hate to be without broadband for any significant time, so will they really be able to wrestle the line back from Talk Talk, get an engineer out to me and up and running in around 10 days?

Your experiences greatly welcomed.

I moved from BeThere to BT Infinity in march 2011, Internet was down for 30mins (20mins of that was while the BT engineer was trying to connect to the homehub using a WEP key instead of WPA).

You will probably get more than 33 down.

Every week i check once to see if my cabinet is enabled... and every week i sigh.

My exchange came on in the first wave and its still not made it a mile down the road.

I guess VM just have a strangle hold round here.

Iv just seen the nice shiney new cabs in our village, and more importantly, a new cab for our street.

How long does it roughly take from cab appearing to being able to get, iv checked relevant sites, and keep seeing dec 2012 being shown, surely it can't take 1 year from cab to activation?

I just checked mine as I've seen BT working for a couple of weeks on my local cabinet and it too says dec 2012. I think it must be a default date put into the system, then they can revise it when they get a firmer idea when it's all finnished.

Have BT given a commitment when speeds will go to 80Mbps?

January 2012-March 2012 will be the timeline for CP trials/pilots of the 80/20 product. 80/20 product launch - This is planned for later in 2012. Dates will be advised nearer the time.

The infinity site is still saying Dec 31st 2011 for my phone number. I should probably start looking for a new router. Looking for wireless N and 4 1GBs ports if anyone has any suggestions.

I take it you can supply/use your own router with Infinity?
I'm guessing BT will supply one - however I'd rather do my research and buy one that totally meets my needs etc.
