BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

My exchange is on the new list :D Just need to hope they enable my cabinet now... Hopeful for a decent connection now though, 1mbit is really pretty bad, so it'll be great to get something good at last.

AlanUK Willowcroft is due to be live 1st December 2011.

According to the Samknows website it does state 1st Dec 2011, however on the BT site it states by 31st December for Willowcroft, the same date as the Breadsall exchange what is now accepting orders.

A little more patience and should be there soon. The cabinet on my street appeared at the end of October, roughly about 400m away from my house.

Mines roughly about the same distance, my cabinet was put in last month I noticed. :D

Well this is a turn up, all the bitching and moaning I've been doing over the last few days, my exchange now shows as a 'future exchange: Before end 2012'. Typical, I quite regret going off on one now :(

Anyone a rough idea of how long 'before end 2012' usually is? Roll-outs in my area are taking place (according to BT's site) Dec 2011, March 2012 and Dec 2012.

Can't believe I MIGHT just MIGHT get something faster than 5mb :D

Hmmm... BT Infinity is enabled now, but it's not available at my address, my Nans address, which are both pretty close to the exchange. But I've put in numbers of a few of my friends who live a further away and it says it's available for them.

People that are close to the exchange are on EO lines (exchange only) and are not connected to a cabinet, which means no infinity for you but you might get it in the future.

Always thought it might be a possibility. That's highly annoying if it's the case! :(

Interesting...

My cabinet (CAB93 on Farnborough, Hampshire exchange) has been built for months. They have finally dug up around the cabinet and seem to be hooking it up. Fingers crossed.

The checker on the other hand has been saying 31st December for the last three months after being pushed from 30th September I think.

But looking today...

Nothing, No mention of FTTC. Says I can't get it!

Is this normal before they change it to the magical 'enabled' status?

It is normal for it to disappear completely before going live. However, i know my cab has not been done at all, i think it is now the only one in my area not to have been :(

On the BT checker it just does not mention fibre at all (whereas it said 31st december a few days ago). Has anybody else with a 31st december date, who knows their cab has not gone up yet, had this happen to them too?

It sounds like it could be but not all lines close the the exchange are guaranteed to be EO. There is hope but don't hold your breath. If you contact adsl24 they will be able to tell you for sure.

Their able and willing to answer a question like that. I imaging it would take bt a while to aswer even if they were willing.

+1

they have been helpful on TB for me too. i have an old postcode to pcp spreadsheet lying about - but this will tell me what cab serves your postcode - im pretty sure it will not tell me if you are connected directly.

Okay cool, I've sent them a message. I've always had a feeling we might be connected straight to the exchange.

Here is a little map. My house and my grandparents can not get it according to BT website when you enter the phone numbers, my friends house can, and the green dot is the nearest cabinet to my house.

Blue dot = my house
Orange dot = Grandparents house
Red dot = exchange
Green dot = nearest known cabinet
Black dot = friends house

Great....the BT website states that the Willowcroft exchange is now due 31st March 2012, gone from 31st December 2011, and the new cabinet is in but not sure if fully wired up.

Perhaps I should have waited until I could actually get it before moving ISP, but hey ho you never know it might come sooner than the end of March.

Alan.

Aron,

Having checked your postcode I can see that you are NOT fed from the exchange which is good news.

You are connected to cabinet 14 which is just up the road from the exchange (Brunswick Rd), and whilst this is planned to be upgraded to FTTC BT have not yet made it live. Each cabinet within the exchange area will go live at different times, so although most are live now, cab 10 and 14 are not yet live - so it's just a case of waiting right now :) It may be a local planning issue as to why there is a delay with these particular cabs, or an issue getting the fibre/copper/power cabling to the new cab.

Great success! This is the offending cabinet 14, which is the one I've put on the map.

Doesn't actually look like that, they've replaced the whole thing with a new one, and them houses are only ~2 years old, I would have thought it would be one of the first to get done. Few weeks a go there was a mass of BT vans down the round with massive spools of wire, the street is pretty long so I'm guessing they're still sorting it out. Hopefully it's not long till it's done!

The BT checker has now changed for me. It used to say I would be able to get infinity from 31st Dec.

Now it simply says its not available in my area!?

What on earth?
