BT ordered to block pirate links

How do some people continue to post such rubbish opinions in the face of almost universal ridicule. Do they genuinely believe that they are right and 99% of other people are wrong.

Christ stockhausen, just engage your brain before giving a brief and idiotic view.
What

Are you actually capable of posting anything even approximating to a serious comment

If I buy a Staley Knife and slash someone are Stanley at fault for providing me with the knife?

No, Staley are :p

I think this is just stupid. Some good sites could go down because they have one link to a pirated movie submitted by a user.

for example, what would happen if a few idiots decided to spam OcUK with loads of pirate links. Would BT then block OcUK?

People will always find a way around these things so ultimately it's just a losing battle for BT anyway.

You could say the same about the locks on your doors and windows. The point of measures against illegal activity is not to make them impossible; it's to make them harder so they happen less.

I'm against movie/music piracy, but I don't think you legislate around a technical problem like this. Partly because the law isn't designed to deal with it, so judges can easily end up acting ultra vires, and partly because the law can't keep up with technology so this sort of legislation will be out of date before it's even enacted.

Why don't you just read the entire thread?

Er, no.

That's not an ISP allowed to make money from Piracy. That's people choosing to go where ever they want.

Unless you have surveyed all users and all admit they go to X ISP for Y sites then your argument is pure guess work.

Ah stockhausen. I knew as soon as I saw the topic Subject and ThumbsUp instantly it would be from this particular poster.

Inability to see the wider picture shocker.

While it is quite depressing that BT have agreed to implement this; there are ways around these feeble tactics.

The main thing is that today is the day the BT fell in-line with the Chinese and the likes of the Nazis etc.. :p

Customers will be jumping off the BT ISP ship as we speak in their hundreds.

Good point.

I guess what I was driving at is that those inclined to use such sites will just move to ISPs that are happy to be "censorship" free.

BT are a shocking ISP anyway

There will be plenty of ISP's who would not want to jeopardise revenue because of this.

The only reason BT probably don't care and want to go ahead with it is because they monopolise most of the commercial home users which tend to be family's who don't really download, but browse.
