BT Sport to get CL and EL

So what you're trying to say is the display a picture on your TV and it works

Bang on.

They provide me with a game a week in full HD, free as part of my package.

I can stream anything else I want to watch, them getting the extra games can only be a bonus.

How long before sky sports customers start dropping away? Can't see sky adjusting any of their prices either. And I agree, while I have bt sport as I don't like to miss the football, the whole presentation is beyond cringeworthy. Jake Humphrey is a compete numpty who knows about as much as football as Louis Spence, there is no need to 'bring in' Mark Halsey every time the ref blows his whistle, and what a childish innovation that stupid plastic pitch is.

I wouldn't worry about the BT commentary team at the moment. It will all be changed in time, I can see most of the ones on Sky moving over to BT.

Hopefully Michael Owen will have moved to channel 4 horse racing :D

Meh, watch how the Sky Sports package doesn't drop in cost, then when they win it back next time around they'll put the prices up to account for the increase in Champs league games, because that is how it goes.

I wouldn't even be surprised if somewhere if you look far enough, a few major share holders of BT and Sky are the same people and thus to them they get the same revenue no matter which company is actually getting it, but in playing off one company against the other they end up increasing overally subscriptions coming in and increase prices every time one of the two companies win a package back.

hmm.

Does this mean Welbeck will be on the telly?

I bet Virgin are happy, don't you get BT Sport free on their XL deal? I can imagine a large amount of customers would switch from Sky to Virgin, if not to BT.

Yes.

Rook about a fortnight after the season started but I can see it possible being charged for once the CL & EL move.

Suits me better as with VM you only get SS1 & SS2 in HD and the mufti screen is on SS4 so you only get SD instead of HD.

So how can i watch CL on my TV from 2015 if i don't have a TV aerial (so no BT Vision)?

Either stump up for a TV aerial, get it installed, then get BT Vision. Or buy a SKY box, buy a freesat card then pair it to my BT account somehow?

Or just put up with their pants online BT Sport stream which is worse than most of the llegal ones?

BT Sport is also IPTV. Might even have HD in 2015. You are also a pretty rare consumer so I doubt they care really.

You could as you say buy a cheap sky box and pair it to your BT account as long as the box comes with a card (or that will cost an extra £20 to get).

I like this news, Sky Sports needs this competition.

Will Bt Sport remain free for BT broadband users after the first year?

Yes but HD won't.

Edit: champions league channel won't though. However the BBC article says they will show one game a week involving a British team free to everyone, just like ITV do.

I guess I won't be watching much Champions League in future.

I wonder how many people who subscribe to Sky Sports also subscribe to BT? I'm sure it won't be that higher percentage. Not many people are going to go for a BT package over Sky are they?

Loads are as they get it free subsidised by their line rental and broadband.

Sky are going to lose out on broadband and unbundled telephone lines if they don't give BT Sport for free like BT are doing. It'll cost them though.

I suspect the opposite actually i.e. a decent number of people with Sky Sports will also have BT Sport, as the chances are people who have Sky Sports are interested in sport and of those a fair proportion will have it for EPL football. BT Sport shows exclusive Sport including EPL matches that aren't on Sky, so there is a lot of synergy there.

As for choosing BT over Sky again while I agree that is unlikely, there are some good reasons why some people might do this:
-BT Sport is free to BT Broadband customers, you have to pay for Sky Sports
-BT Sport can be had standalone/cheaper i.e. not need to pay a generic subscription in addition to the sport
-BT Sport only has a 1 month minimum term

Re-read the BBC article. One game a SEASON and possibly the Final.

Sky ultimately decided that they were worth x amount and BT bid almost double that.

I can absolutely guarantee, with 100% accuracy that by the time the CL comes to BT that BT Sport will carry a subscription even if you have Other BT services. Their boss even said as much but declined to name a price, only 'less than you currently pay' which could mean £20 a month or more, just less than Sky's pricing.

Yep I misread. Only one game a season which is a shame.

The thing is that Sky should be reducing their prices given that they are losing so much valuable TV. Ultimately I think they will do as they lose customers over time.

BT sports package price will be key. I think they'll keep the PL football free to broadband customers.

The key for BT will be getting more EPL football in the next rights offering. 50:50 would result in people having to choose and that will create competition.

Hmm, how do you get it if your line and phone is with Sky? the last I looked you had to have some form of BT service…

If you have a dish, sky box and card for the box, you can get it but have to pay.

In order to do that they'd need to introduce another channel though? Very difficult to split individual programs on one channel by subscription when you don't have complete and direct control over the broadcast?

The next round of premier league negotiations could be interesting. The PL knows that Sky needs the PL more than ever so surely they'll accordingly shaft them more than ever.
