And whats an Astra Coupe and an MG ZS doing there, is it a geriatrics race or something? They've been out of production for years.

Well the ZS saloon is a 4 door car larger than a 320i, so surely it is also a "proper" touring car by your standards? Yes it's getting on a bit compared to the competition, but they were available up to 2005. The youngest 850 would now be 12 years old.

BTCC leading qualifying times, Brands Hatch :

3. Robert Collard (GBR), Airwaves BMW/BMW 320si, +0.069s

4. Colin Turkington (GBR), Team RAC/BMW 320si, +0.165s

5. Andrew Jordan (GBR), VX Racing/Vauxhall Vectra, +0.216s

6. Jonathan Adam (GBR), Airwaves BMW/BMW 320si, +0.264s

It is such a nice day. I am feeling so guilty for not going outside. If i didn't have a bangover i would probably be outside. The racing has been good so far.

Some good racing today in the Touring cars, not quite as tense with 3 races as the F1 is with one but still some good action.

You got a whole range of stuff going on today. Race 1 was awesome with the lead changing, lots of nice jostling and a few accidents. Good to see that at the very least the BMW's and Vauxhalls are all very even and quick. Thats 7 cars at the front without some of the other teams coming forward.

Race 2 was good again, a great push and shove move from Collard to get past and win. Great to see him win again after so long as well.

As for Race 3, the script couldn't be better with Plato drawn on pole. Adam nearly caused a big accident with Plato who did really well to stay on track. However both drivers showed their skills as Adam drove away and Plato seemed to be the only person Neal could not use his push through maneuver. Adam later got a time penalty for the accident, I think out of all the contact today that accident was the only one that could have been really dangerous.

Anyway good racing today if not the cleanest. They do set a bit of an argy bargy standard in this series. Matt Neal has his very calculated tap wide and drive through maneuver but in my mind it should be clean and only contact when needed and side by side. Mind you Turkington and Collard were no better, Collards move was really physical. Tap the other car wide, but he did not go, get inside and then push out. Great to watch but I'm not sure if it is the way forward!

I watched it on TV, that was a quite incredible recovery. Have you got any photos from today at all ?.

We should make this the official BTCC thread and keep it updated with photos etc from the people that have gone to watch.

Im still toying with the idea of going to Thruxton. Just not sure yet.

Sorry I was in front of the TV! Been away since watching the F1 as I was out this morning. Hoping to go to Oulton Park again this year, and maybe others, Silverstone or Rockingham!

The whole day is a good day out, you do see less of the action unless you are lucky enough to have a big screen nearby. Racing is pretty much on all day apart from lunch and the support races are just as exciting. Having the proper sound from the cars, and seeing how quick they are as the TV dulls a lot of it down is great!

plato's save was fantastic and that bloody car is fast down the straights!!

rear wheels off the track, 90o angle, still saves it. excellent driving :D
was well happy that i turned over to show my boy something other than F1

Here is the save :

It just looks impossible from this angle, but he did save it, incredible. Fabrizio Giovanardi did a similiar thing either last year or the year before. Great stuff.

[[[EDIT]]] Here is Gio's attempt : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMLV...B5568B4F&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=93

Did anyone else see the interview with Tom Onslow Cole ?. He was commenting on the fact that there has been interest from a Volvo team for the BTCC. Now that would be good.

I too can't get to watch it either... I had problems like this last year when I was watching last season, only reason I've ever used ITV catch up. Iplayer = much better tbh
