Issues

1. My current monitor has a VGA connection, the MOBO only has Serial and therfore the monitor will not connect MOBO.
I can however connect it to th Graphics card, but nothing comes on screen when I switch on the PC. I can't install the graphics driver as I haven't even installed the OS yet!

2. The Hard disk just sits in a bay on top of 4 rubber grommits and is not attached to the case in any way, does this make sense?

3. The Hard disk did not come with a SATA cable, I assume that I need to buy one of these seperatley?

2. That doesn't sound right at all. Can you take a photo of it?

3. All the cables should have come with the motherboard. if you didn't get any and you think you should have, contact MSI. If you know that you shouldn't have gotten any you'll have to buy some.

Sometimes on monitor's you have an input selection. Have a look on yours to see if you can change it to VGA, thats what I had to do with my Dell.

If its anything like my antec sonata there should be some small screws supplied with the case which screws through the rubber gromits into the HD

i think im going to place my bets on missing AUX power for the CPU. I done it myself on my first build, spent an hour scratchin my head over what i couldd of done wrong

1. You dont have to install graphics drivers until after XP has installed so it is another problem, have you plugged in all power connections needed to the mobo?

Thanks everyone, to answer some of the points.

2. The Hard disk just sits in a bay on top of 4 rubber grommits and is not attached to the case in any way, does this make sense?
- ok, got lots of screws supplied with the case, so I think problerm solved on this one, will fix HD through the rubber grommits.

3. The Hard disk did not come with a SATA cable, I assume that I need to buy one of these seperatley?
- did find a SATA cable that came with the case and connected the HD, will need to buy one for my DVD RW though, no cables supplied with it and only one supplied with the case.

Some of the other points.

My monitor has the male VGA connection, it's female counterpart does not exist on the MOBO. I have therefore fitted the Graphics card, which does have the female VGA connection. I have fitted this to the PCI-e 16X slot.
Graphics card does not have as seperate power supply.
Switching on the PC does not send anything to the monitor.

I have connected the square 4 plug into the mother board.

Switching on the PC starts the case fans and the CPU fan, but that seems to be about it.

I've had that before with an old PC, graphics card would start, monitor would be one, but screen wouldn't come up, infact it would go black as soon as i plugged it into the adaptor on gfx card. It's the connector itself. I think i used a VGA adaptor ontop of the existing and this worked for some reason. If the card is in properly it's the only thing it will be.

If the connector doesn't like it, it just cancels out the signal and makes the screen black.

I think he hasn't connected the "square four plug" for the cpu.
I did the exact same thing myself... remembered to plug in the four-pin plug next to the main motherboard molex plug thingy, but completely forgot to plug in the four pin plug next to the CPU. Was scratching my head for ages trying to work out why the fans were spinning but there was no other activity whatsoever.

hail-hail, does the PC POST at all? Can you hear it beep when you power it up?

I have connected the PSU to the following places:

I am not sure if it beeps, I am not infront of the PC now unfortunatley.

some motherboards come with the cmos jumper set to clear to save the cmos battery

Check in the manual about resetting the cmos and what setting it needs to be on to function normaly.

Hard to miss out a PSU cable when the 3 main ones are always connected lol.

I'm starting up my new PC tonight after building it last night, haven't touched the jumper, shouldn't need to really in a brand new board.

3 main ones, I only have 2 PSU cables connected to my mobo, am I missing something?

Will check the jumper settings tonight.

just to say your gonna have a hard time installing vista seeing as you only have 1 sata cable :S

unless you have a spare ide drive hanging around.

if you still cant get it to fire up, set it up outside of the case to see if its shorting on anything.

 I get that, I am just trying to get to the BIOS screen at the moment.

The monitor should work via the Graphics card, even though I have not installed any drivers etc. I have just plugged it into the mobo, is this correct?

Hard time installing Vista with one SATA cable, i.e. 1 H.D.D, eh? (i'm assuming i've missed a post somewhere)

No that's right, two power cables on motherboard, the big one and either a 4-pin or 8pin 12V.
