Build up to Virgin London Marathon 2010

I'd better pack a cap! What else am I missing... running gets complicated when it's away from home. Getting excited now though. :)

I just ventured past 10km for the first time with a comfortable (but still tiring!) 15km in 1:19 so I have a lot of admiration for you guys and hopefully one day I'll join you.

On a side note, having never done an organised event, do you guys have mp3 players with you and if not, how do you stop boredom?

Good luck!!

15km in 1:19 is a fair pace to be honest

Don't use an MP3 and never get time to be bored, constantly running the stats regards pace etc during a race. When I'm training I just drift off......

*ahem* and ladies? :p

We came down to London yesterday. Collected my race number and all my freebies etc. at the expo yesterday. We had an Italian at a place on Blackheath Common last night and I saw then setting up the blue start. We also went down part of the route. It's all getting very real now!!

Going to get my number pinned on my vest and lay everything out this morn, then spend the rest of the day lazing around and drinking water before a 30th birthday party tonight. No alcohol for me and an early taxi home.

This time tomorrow I'll be at the start, preparing myself for my first marathon!

Good luck FB, hope you smash your pb. Have a great race :)

Cheers, Lostkat. Good luck & have a good one :)

I'm only heading down to London now. Oooo, I's excited. :)

well, how'd you all do?

Well.... I'm not very good at race reports so in brief I fluffed it :p

I came in at 3:05:01, which although a PB I was a little disappointed not to go sub 3. I was a few seconds ahead of myself on pace and feeling great at the half way mark, eased off a little up to the 20 mile mark and then lost it and slowed, especially in the final 7km.

However I do know what I need to do to achieve my goal and determined to go sub 3 in Notts in Sept or London 2011.

5km splits for interest:

START TIME 09:45:07
5K 00:20:49
10K 00:41:36
15K 01:02:37
20K 01:23:46
HALF 01:28:12
25K 01:44:39
30K 02:06:03
35K 02:28:57
40K 02:54:09
FINISH 03:05:01

That's enought about me, how'd you get on Lostkat?

Wow that's amazing guys. Shame you both missed the hour mark by a few minutes. Are you both intending to run again next year? Will you get priority as you've run before or are you just shoved back in the draw with the rest of us?

I'm still guaranteed an entry as I'm classed as good for age, so will be back there in 2011.

Congrats again LostKat, will join you in Leics if I'm on hols when Notts runs.

Cheers, Chris.

Just done my last 20 mile long run before edinbough marathon. The neves are starting to kick in : ( lol

Indeed, you'll be fine. As LostKat asks, is it your first etc? Your panic will naturally increase over the next few weeks and everything will ache the week before at the end of the taper. Just realise its par the course and it'll be fine when you get to the start. Edinburgh has a good downhill start, just dont get carried away by it all and sure it'll all be good.
