Building My First PC Today! Advice please!

had some time and managed to sort out imageshack
here's the motherboard sort of installed!:

and here's the misalignment at the rear:

BTW just realise I've installed the stock cooler by mistake rather than the aftermarket cooler I purchased - doh!! So will have to go about removing that tomorrow! (although tempted to leave for the time being)

that bored is bent,,, bent enough to snap some soldered components off ...

that case looks like a dell or hp ......if it was me i wud get another tower with psu.... as a dell/hp psu will be probably be wired for dell motherboards only ,,, sometimes

the stand is to big for that corner ...... i have 1000s of emm takes me half hour to get 4 same size lol ...... yea when u put main board in and put cpu in and heat sink,, its after u stand the tower up that u notice it aint right or u have trapped a front panel cable ...

make sure u can still get to the re-set and power pins :P or ul be there with a tourch and som thin nose gripper thingyd

,,, smaller stands or a new case ....

This is being fit into an Antec P183, so he shouldn't really be having this sort of drama. My monies on standoff's being incorrectly positioned.

He's a first timer so we need to go easy on him. Don't wanna scare him away!

Is that the right motherboard for the case? it doesnt look like you can line up the stand-off's with the screw holes on the board... there should be a diagram with the motherboard manual- take the motherboard out and have a good look before powering it on!

It is possible the case has been badly produced, in which case (see what i did there!) you should send it back. What case is it?

are all the stands the same size ???? is it bent ? when u take it out ???

take a closes look of the panel pic u sent ..... notice how all the other slots/wholes are all perfect ... bt the DVI 1 is pushed up at bottom and the word dvi has kink under it .....,, can any 1 else see it ?

i think the main board is bent .and as a resuilt ...uve had to bend the panel cover a little to get it in .. u mint have to have no bk panel on for now just be careful when plugging stuff in and taking out

Can you take a picture of your case without the motherboard and with the standoff's as you've got them screwed in now?

Ok, I've just checked and didn't have any cardboard washers with the case
Also I only had 3 stand offs but now realise some are already in the case, which I intend to take out.
I have 2 rubber washers (I think!)

Here's a pic of what came with the case:

and with the motherboard:

Thanks for those who are being encouraging but TBH I also need to hear comments like:
that bored is bent,,, bent enough to snap some soldered components off ...

I really hope I don't have to replace the motherboard as I can't really afford to buy another at the mo, but saying that I'm determined to learn how to do this :)

I've never seen those large flat screws before. And what the heck are those plastic washers! You didn't get the case of some bloke in the pub did you!?

ermmm screw emm all in bt with out the board ...... and get a ruler, a and go round each one ??? see if there same length , bt like above ive never seen them before .......

I take the motherboard screws fit snuggly into the standoffs that Mantaray posted? You can try this outside of the case just in your hands.

Manatray - those you've pictured are the ones I put in the case already
Also at the moment I've put the case back together as didn't want to leave the motherboard out in the open so to speak as I live in a dusty old house
If I take the case apart again what would you recommend - do this again??
And no, I didnt buy the case from anyone in the pub!!

I remember people having issues getting the back ports to line up properly with the io shield in the p182 with certain boards, could have perhaps carried over to the p183, see link for info.

More info in this thread as well.

Just read that post and that's the problem I'm having
I know I have to fit the board properly with the relevant screws but still not sure the back ports will fit
For what its worth the motherboard I'm using is a Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H

emm looks like u may have to lose the io shield ... and do with out .... ive had loads with out em and there fine as long as ur careful when plugging/unplugging,,, sleep on it and refresh yur head tomorrow ... im sure if it was me i wud be going nuts by now

No, I'm fine
Not touching it tonight because I'm pretty tired, but tomorrow I intend to remove the stock cooler and install another, and then somehow manage to install the motherboard
One thing - do I assume from the later posts that no cardboard washers are necessary??
