They have said numerous times that they have 3 projects on the go at the moment and seeing the viral marketing is Halo based it will be another Halo game (note I said Halo game NOT Halo 4!). The second game they have in production they have come out and said it is a completely new IP and nobody knows anything about the third game.

We've heard rumours for months and as time goes on more and more rumours appear and most of them seem to link to each other in some way.

So far I've heard that it will be a 3rd person squad based game based around ODST's.

I got the ODST part right :) No clue about what kind of game it is yet though because they've shown us very little so far, but I now have a new theory:

It could very well be a Halo 3 Expansion in the form of DLC, since in the trailer it very breifly flashes the Halo 3 logo.
 
Wait, I watched it again. LOADS of ODST troops fly down into a massive explosion. Then it goes back to the floor and everything is destroyed..... then back to the sky and there is one more drop pod coming down. Then it flicks to ">HALO 3 - Prepare to drop" ?!!

That's a clever theory, because it would be downloadable content... not another halo game!:)

I really wish they would do one based on ODST troops though, something fresh like battlecruisers and fighting in space with the crafts? something that they start from scratch?

This is just one of their little projects I guess?
 
I've just thought of something else too:

Could it be a prequel to Halo 3? Because at the begining of Halo 3 Earth has already been conquered by the covenant by the time Master Chief makes it back to Earth.

Also if you look closely you can see the orbital elevator in the distance in the trailer (of which Earth has atleast 1 IIRC - not sure on the exact number though since its been ages since I read the book).

After Reach was destroyed it has been said that Earth was humanities last stronghold and in the trailer that city looks like Human architecture to me :)
 
I wonder if this is gonna be the earth based combat levels that were dropped from halo2. When halo 2 was released there was a massive outcry that barely any action took place on earth, though the trailers they released showed quite a bit of action. Im near sure i remember reading bungie were thinking of releasing some earth based levels but it never happened. This so far looks like the battle on earth from halo 2 but in the halo 3 engine.
 
Its pretty much confirmed as a Halo 3 expansion now because of the text that accompanies the debut trailer on the marketplace.
