Burnount Paradise Demo next week?

Burnout is developed by Criterion. EA simply aquired the company and therefore publish the games. In terms of gameplay, the only real influence EA has had over Burnout is the addition of EA Trax.

no, Colin McRae Rally was also better
That's what I hear, but I don't think it was expected to be better, more of a surprise that it was.

What I'm saying is, we can realistically expect the PS3 version to have the slight edge, rather than hope it might, or more likely expect the 360 version to be the better of the two, which is how things have become.

I don't think there's any doubt that the PS3 will have the slight edge over the 360 version.

But, I'm prepared to stand at the very front of the war and take all the fanboys down one by one - the 360 version will be better for one simple reason - Live!

I doubt there will be much difference anyway, a lot like the supposed 'better' 360 ports where 9 times out of 10 theres 1 or 2 fps difference and nothing to write home about.

Yeah I agree, I very much doubt there will be much difference between the version. Or at least I hope there's not much difference.

Then we can all just get down to playing the game :)

what exactly are we thinking is gonna be better on the ps3 version than the 360 version? just a small performance difference?

This comes straight from the developers:

http://www.ps3blog.net/2007/04/11/burnout-5-main-focus-on-ps3-version/

The Criterion team said that the PS3 version will have 1080p, and the SIXAXIS controller will provide more control options that the 360 doesn’t have. Imagine steering your crashed car with your SIXAXIS. Just thinking out loud.

Also the PS3’s advanced processing capabilities are perfect for the many physics intensive crashes in Burnout 5. Both versions will feature camera support during game play.

So this could actually show us what the PS3 can do better than the 360?

As for the SIXAXIS. Oh noes us 360 users will have to use the thumbsticks to use after touch. Damn that's going to be so much harder... lol

dont have a 1080p display so no worries there lol

Not quite sure how the SIXAXIS bit is gonna work for steering your wreck though? shoving the controller to the left to get it to go left? think i'd rather use an analog stick to just point it in a direction and watch it go lol

but we'll have to wait and see

Actually the 1080p comment has got me a bit concerned now.

If they really can pull off a like for like detail with the XBOX360, but run at 1080p, with the same framerate, then I'll be shocked!

Hope the demo does come soon then, to put my mind at rest.

If they can really do that, I'll be dead impressed.
If they have to sacrifice framerate or detail to get it running at 1080p, then I'd frankly rather they aimed for 720p instead.

Still, who knows, maybe they're getting their heads around the architechture, though even if they are, that would be one hell of an achievement!

EDIT: OK, just read the link, and I see it's quite old. From April or so? Maybe things have changed since then, at least on the 1080p front. I'd imagine there'd still be sixaxis support (which can be disabled if you'd rather use a thumbstick)
As for what they say about the more advanced physics, due to the Cell, I guess we'll have to wait and see on that one. In principle it would make sense, but I wouldn't be surprised, at the end of the day, if both console versions were pretty much identical. Still, we can all speculate all we like... let's hope the forthcoming demo sheds some light on it. If the PS3 does have better physics, I imagine we'll be seeing even more OTT crashes, with bits flying everywhere, and interacting with each other.... and even more to draw... at 1080p, if that turns out to be the case!

The Sixaxis doesn't only function by shoving it in a direction, though this is what some games do.

Other games allow full steering, using the Sixaxis like a steering wheel in midair, or games like Heavenly Sword use it excellently to gently guide projectiles through the air. Or Drake's Fortune for balancing on logs. It's definitely a lot more dynamic than just shoving. I'd imagine for an aftershock, you could gently steer your car by gently twisting the controller in the direction you want it to go. I'm sure they'll allow you to do it the old way too, but once you get used to using the Sixaxis this way, it can be quite immersive. (I won't comment on Lair however, I haven't played it myself) ;)
