Busted . .

lmao at this thread. I thought everybody here knew you should never post about being caught doing something illegal unless you want 17 pages of "I don't care, it's the law!!!"

Will Gill makes a perfect point. The law is often an ass and just because it is a law, it doesn't have to be fair or reasonable, and it can be perfectly acceptable to feel put upon when you are taken to task over such laws.

For example, apparently any person found breaking a boiled egg at the "sharp" end may be sentenced to 24 hours in the stocks, although I'd imagine that you'd feel a bit put upon if the law kicked down your door and dragged you off for such a crime.

Likewise it is, apparently, illegal for a lady to eat chocolates on a public conveyance, but I fail to remember the last time I saw one of Her Majesties Transport Police dragging some poor unfortunate female off for questioning about suspected cocoa based snacking.

While these laws are out of date and outmoded, modern laws sometimes make as little sense either in the law itself, or in the way that it is interpreted or enforced.

But then, the laws of this country are made in parliament, which is stuffed to the rafters with buffoons who are interested only in claiming back their expenses and keeping hold of their cushy lifestyle. Let's face it, they'll pass any old claptrap into law if they think it will win them votes and thus hang on to their bar expenses and state funded wallpaper.

and who gets to decide on when is the time and place?
there is no where in the law that says if its 9pm and the road is empty its ok to go over the speed limit.
or if stopped at traffic lights its ok to use the phone for a second.

whether people agree with them or not we are supposed to abide by them, i assume burglars/rapists etc also don't agree with laws that say they cant to what they do, or is it ok when its the time and place?
please don't say its not the same as i know, its just an example except that they are both breaking the law

Am I seeing things or did you actually just compare minor driving offences to rape?

And remember, time spent on the phone is a waste of time you could spend planning how to scratch peoples cars who park in the wrong parking space at the supermarket ;)

stalking me now eh?

read that post again before making comments like that, and grow up, your not funny - more annoying.

You can use a phone while driving and still pay attention to the road. Trust me, if I wasn't paying attention then I wouldn't be able to spot old bill in time to drop it ;)

The law is correct that you shouldn't be able to talk on your phone and drive. All those saying its retarded would be saying something very different if the OP, had of pulled off form the lights still talking on the phone and knocked someone down 250m further along.

As for looking at women, etc IE generally not paying attention, is against the law it is called driving without due care and attention.

looks like we've got another one

Can you still get done if you've pulled over, applied the handbrake and put the car in neutral? That's how I answer my phone, but I've seen an off duty policeman giving a friend grief for doing just that.

I think so. You should have the engine turned off which you may as well do anyway if you've pulled over.

Constantly stopping and starting the engine is bad for the battery and starter motor.

I see no problem with a car parked, in neutral with handbrake on and engine running while using the phone. Only a jobsworth policeman and holier than thou OcUK forumites would take issue with this.

If you're someone who has to keep stopping due to phone calls I expect you'd have a handsfree kit so it shouldn't be too often anyway.

Although I do agree with you, I don't see a problem with someone using a phone while stopped either, whether the engine is running or not.

Some kid down our drive way (our drive way is about a kilometre long down a private road) drove his brand new car, something like a fiesta, straight down the ditch. Turned out he was texting at the time, I'm ashamed of myself for not taking any pictures, the way the car was positioned was hilarious. He's only just passed his test as well.

YES BUT HE ****ING DIDN'T DO THAT DID HE?!?!?!

****ING HELL...

I see people driving 30/40mph with mobile phones stuck to them all the time, it's not only illegal but very dangerious ... if you were ever involed in an accident even if it wasn't all your fault you'd probably get most/all the blame since you were the one on the phone, likewise if you were high or intoxicated.

Best thing to do is switch the phone off whist driving and ask your friends to 'txt' you, you can check it later or at rest stops that way no one can phone you.

As far as I know phones are a no-no even at red lights in a queue, handbake/N still a no-no. If your phone was on and someone called at a red light, I'd either busy the call or pick it up and say I'll call you back in a minute or whatever depending on the lights/traffic.

I'd deffo try and keep it off, with all the campaining I hear day-to-day about cracking down on phones, last thing I would do is give them an excuse.
