I don't think auto's are terrible...Just find a manual makes driving more fun..It's ok mate. Just a lack of knowledge / experience that makes you think all autos are terrible. I too thought that until I got my 530d. That completely blew me away how good an auto box can actually be.
They are no longer the box of choice for big exec saloons and 4x4's. They can be a relatively sporty cars too, and can enhance the experience.
Sure, if you had a proper sports car, that was only doing track work, you would want a manual. Or if you were too tight to fork out for the auto box. Or the auto box available to you was poor. But this really isn't the case with the current BMW line-up. Or, indeed, many of the better Audi's. I really wanted the DSG box in my Golf GTI, but alas, the manual I bought came up locally for the right price, and I couldn't be bothered hunting any more. That's the only reason I don't currently have an auto (apart from my Range Rover).
Yep. Agreed. Man-math is a bit off on this one.
I averaged a little under 40 mpg when I had my 335d. But lets say, for arguments sake, that he can average 40 mpg. And a similar powered petrol equivalent can average around 28 mpg (which I believe to be genuinely generous for both).
Now, in a 340i / 335i you just would use super unleaded, and standard diesel in your 335d. So local prices to me, today, are £1.169 for Mom99 and £1.149 for Tesco diesel (probably the most likely source of both fuels).
Over £10k per year, the diesel is £592 cheaper. So looking at around £1777 better off in the diesel over the 3 years.
anyone know what the warranty period is on the 335d?
if i were to get a 14 plate one would that basically be out of warranty?
i'm guessing a bmw extended warranty is 1-2k?

A quick look on Autotrader puts the 335i roughly 2-3k cheaper than a similar 335d. No brainer really.
Why don't you just get a brand new BMW on PCP rather than messing about with loans etc.
For £1000 deposit and £349 x 47 you could be driving a brand new BMW 240i, thats less per month than the bank loan you're looking at, its a brand new car with warranty etc and I don't think anyone can turn their nose up at a 240i even though the 335d is a lovely motor.
Edit if you're not worried about lots of fancy options you could get this...
The New Base Price deal from TRL is M140i 3 Door Manual, in AW, no options. deposit £500 then 47 x £299 plus GFV £13,306. Based on 8K miles PA.
APR 4.9%
Obviously you can spec it up if you want...
Where are you finding deals like this? From BMW?
Surely the 3 series will lose less £ in depreciation than the cost of the 240i lease.
Is the spec going to be like-for-like though? Looking at the options list it seems to soon start adding up.
