Bye Bye Game!

I think it was RBS that blocked the OpCapita bid. Whilst I hope someone buys them it does also seem a bit like scavengers circling a dying prey.

I share the majority opinion on GAME.

Sad to see so many lose thier jobs, but hopeful that the games market will evolve.

Putting on my business hat I'm 100% convinced GAME will be back as I believe they are still a viable business especially with the industry still growing. If they cut down the number of duplicate stores in town centre's (sadly laying off staff) and can be more competitive on pricing compared to Etailers then they can turn it around.

If RBS blocked the bid, then that's stupid. OpCapita were going to take on a large majority of the debts. It appears all the Games and GameStations are currently closed. The business is virtually worthless now, at least RBS would have received a small amount back, I doubt they'll receive anything now. And who says a nationalised bank has our interest at heart?

possibly...but is this? They will receive very little now and it also appears that no-one is really interested even if they are in administration, unless of course RBS buy them. Now, the silly thing is, do you want your taxpaying money spent on buying Game, because effectively that is what they are doing...

Does seem crazy why they chose to have duplication in the same high streets though, perhaps could have been due to acquisitions or was Gamestation always part of Game? If it was through acquisitions it could have been that they had lease commitments so couldn't just close stores without another lease buyer lined up.

GameStation and foreign "investments" are what brought them down...but yes, I suppose I'd rather Game was nationalised than RBS!

Surprised DS Group don't buy it as they already buy software and would probably have the purchasing power. Can't see why it wouldn't be viable if someone like that owned it and kept them going in the densest populated areas, could support quite a few in London and other cities.

Maybe RBS would rather see the assets stripped as a faster way to recoup its money even if not in full rather than a drawn out dribs and drabs in the current economic climate.

Game in Swindon has been shut down, posters in the window say moving however it was there last time I went which was a few weeks ago

about half the shops are closing has been posted on t'internet. appears at this time ALL GameStation's are included but some Games aswell

Most of the duplication is down to two reasons:

1. As mentioned the acquisition of Gamestation and failure to rebrand/shut down/consolidate

2. Presense in covered shopping centre's has led to GAME opening additional stores within a short distance of thier traditional high street stores.

Real World Example: Crawley, West Sussex

County Mall - Small GAME Store

Shopping Precinct - Large GAME Store (Within 2 minute walk of County Mall store)

The Broadway - Medium sized GameStation store (within 5 minutes walk of Shopping Precinct GAME store)
