Now they've made a load of money from us following its official release, maybe the devs will pull their finger out and actually polish this unfinished game. After all of the delays it had I'm shocked this is what we get, it's like playing a Beta. It shocks me more with all the people that seem to think this is okay!
The UI is utter trash for a start.
IMO the WMD scheme is flawed as I'd guess a large number of people backed the game just thinking about their financial return when the game launched and sold lots. They probably never even logged into the forums to post bugs etc.
>Awaits the fanboy comeback despite their failure to see what 30 odd quid or more has actaully got them - Shift 2.5
I backed the game to the tune of €100 in the end after starting at the bottom with €10.
I wasn't a particularly active member of the forum, less than 100 post, but I did visit it regularly and posted the odd bug report that hadn't been posted about before. I also submitted real life photos of tracks I'd visited in order to reproduce tracks as accurately as possible. The main problem with bug reporting was the forum got very messy, so even searching for previously reported issues was hard.
I've always tried to remain impartial in my opinions, I've defended the game and also pointed out flaws in the game as development went along.
The problem I have with the game as it stands now it's released is the AI still needs work. There are still bugs in the game that probably existed prior to release. I also think the game needed more cars than it has at release.
I think SMS are nearly there with the product they've released, just a patch or two to sort bugs and AI and it's a decent game. Apparently more cars will be added for free as well as paid content. I believe paid content will be along the lines of say a complete NASCAR series, which I know they have a full licence for.
I think when you consider how small the budget was they've done a great job. But I also understand that that is irrelevant when they are asking AAA prices for what feels like something that's just missing that extra level of polish.
It's polish I think that will come. This is a big deal for SMS in terms of their future. It's their own IP and they need it to succeed. So it's in their best interests to sort current issues out. There's certainly an element of learning on the job for them in certain aspects and so mistakes were bound to happen along the way.
I'd also like to point out that, apparently, non of the assets from any of the Shift games were reused. It's the same game engine, but everything was rebuilt from scratch. I do remember reading in the forum that some of the devs from the GTR days have now rebuilt the Nordschleife circuit half a dozen times now.
