They arent sims then! ;) :p

iRacing is still my sim of choice. pCARS is ok for some pretty visuals and a quick blast around Bathurst though.
just because they are on a console doesnt me an they arent a sim. they wont be quite as realistic as some of the PC games, but they're still racing sims. ive had a go on demo versions of PC sims and, while better than the console sims, they arent better than CARS in my opinion

also, isnt iRacing the one where there were several racing drivers complaining that the cars had way too little grip and were far too unforgiving?
(it might have been netkar pro, i'm not sure)

Not been getting on well with this, messing around with the formula 1 cars (old and new) but I had a go today in the audi and loved it.

Some of you might appreciate the little easter egg i put in there (about 15 seconds in).

I have the same opinion as you but for a car that is 3.8 tons it's easy to drive on the limit, have finally gotten around to play the game again since i last played it around 3 weeks ago.

Nice lap! Stock car at Watkins is a great combination, I uploaded a vid yesterday, much slower but not bad for a first run on stock setup.

Watkins Glen played that one so many times on the original nascar many years ago. Theres lots of hard corners where the car goes light, handling was good on that game.

Having become suddenly interested in this and having no idea about wheels, I'm at a bit of a loss. My driving game experience outside of pure arcade only goes as far as Forza and Colin Mcrae. I'm probably going to have a go at junior with my eggbox pad initially, but could use a shove in the right wheel direction. £100 feels like an awful lot already.

Is there anything else I should be looking at in the Driving Force GT range?

Yes the Thrustmater F430, the pedals on the DFGT are **** and the shifters are dire, sure it has 900' rotation but this isn't drifting. The F430 has a much more solid and weighted feel whereas the DFGT is light and 'skinny' to touch - in my opinion the F430 is more realistic (I have a race license so I kinda know what I'm on about).

The only plus for the DFGT is the FFB which has a bit more detail, however that might be because the wheel is so light and therefore doesn't dampen anything!

Well that is certainly food for thought. I've never really rated FFB(which until yesterday was a mysterious abbreviation, I wont share what I came up, but I was corrected by a friend) and the 900 degrees of motion sounded "mental".

I had a quick hunt and turned up a Thrustmaster F430 at a well known competitor for £69.99, am I on the right track? That sounds awfully cheap.

i still dont get how the dfgt wheel is light. maybe logitech changed the default settings or something as mine is pretty heavy to turn once a game loads up and ffb is active

if im not mistaken the f430 forcefeedback is belt driven.

where as the logitech dfgt is cogs.

so it gives that feeling of no resistance on the logitech or a grainy feel as you turn it.

Overall though i feel the f430 is better built, just support isnt as good as logitech.

has anyone tried the f430 on windws 8?
i only bought my wheel the other day a DFGT because

1, i could find posts via google saying it worked in windows 8
2, i could grab it from a nearby store and not have to wait for it beeing delivered.

i like the grainy feel tbh i guess some people hate it though, it certainly doesnt feel light to turn though

Had my f430 wheel for almost a year. Just had my pedals replaced after my brake pedal snapped off even after relatively light use. So I wouldn't say that they are amazingly built but for the price you can't go too wrong.

well the pedals are made out of a metal, so i have no idea how you broke that but yes i agree price is good.
