CACJE 0546 a good stepping?

hardnrg thats great! What volts is that?
it ain't mine... but it's 1.504v in cpu-z on a dfi nf4 (so maybe more like 1.6 at the socket)

as for the APAW/BPAW thing... someone asked what's up with it? nothing... just the same old thing

2.7-2.8 stable with 2 x 512. 1.6v

2.4-2.5 stable with 4 x 512 1.6v

stable being 8hrs of prime and no crashes in everyday use.

Bit annoying really as I need 2gb for bf2. Will have to sell and swap for 1gb sticks.

I have another chip I ordered at same time of same stepping which I haven't tried yet.

And yes I knew what this thread was about by seeing the stepping so I think fair enough just posting that. Now the thread has just been litered by the complaints.

I have a 144 Opteron with this stepping CACJE 0546. Im abit confused as to what people have as stock volts. I thought it was 1.4v but Needforspeed said "just got upto 2.73 still haven't increased the voltage yet but MBM and Asus PC probe show it at 1.47 now running prime95".

he means 2.75GHz on stock volts

He might mean 2.75Ghz but thats by the by, what I,m more interested in is what he or anyone else considers to be stock volts.
My understanding is they are 1.4v. When installed in my mobo and set to default it sets the volts at 1.5v.

Can anyone shed light on actual default volts for the Opteron please.

1.4v is the stock volts for 146.

Go HERE

and download AMD64 TCaseMax.

It gives info for your chip.

Thanks for that Carter, really useful info and program.

It would appear people are assuming that because the mobo defaults to 1.5v they think thats stock volts.

For the record, my new CACJE 0546 is Prime, PI 32mb and OCCT stable at 2.745Ghz.

thanks big.wayne.there is only one frankie lampard.
has anyone got 3.00ghz stable on the cacje 146?
i got a boot on 3.00ghz but froze on 3d 2001
ok on 2.95 but froze playing day of defeat after 0.5hr
2.85ghz great on prime, super pi etc.day in day out.
thanks guys and gals

mines defaulted to 1.6, had it set to that for a good few hours too

How have you got on with your clocks builder22?

I dont really want to put more than 1.55v (set in bios) into it 24/7 but would be nice to reach over 2.8Ghz if possible.

Whats the max clock/volts people are reaching? Anyone?

anything over 2.75Ghz for me means really ramping up the vcore, had it at 1.6+vcore yesterday. 2.75Ghz is at 1.55vcore, Prime stable 12 hours, temps 46c.

That seems about the max for mine also. Max fsb is 305, I tried 310 for 2.8Ghz but it wouldnt pass anything except 1Mb SuperPi.
All thats left is to go up 1 point at a time.

Still, its a 270Mhz increase on my A64 3200 !

I,m really starting to get miffed with this chip now.
Passed Prime for over 20 hrs at 2.745Ghz with bios set to 1.525v  .
Tryed upping 1Mhz at a time. At one stage was upto 1.525 x 110% in bios but not able to get anything stable for long.
Now, go back to 2.745 and it faulted in prime after 7hrs 55mins  .
Im having to back it down to 2.7Ghz now to see if I can get a stable set up.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen  ?

Hi,

That's normally the time to take a break. No point in letting it wind you up. To trouble shoot and hit your highest overclocks you are better served by being rested and keeping careful notes of what settings you have tweaked.

Apart from you being cool, how cool is your set-up? can you rig an extra fan up to see if its an overheating issue?

By the looks of it you have pushed an extra 900MHz out of a average stepping CPU, looks quite good so far. Just back down your overclocks to a point where you are sure you are stable, and then work forward from there.

Am I right in thinking you bought a new opteron to replace your already good A64? :)

Yes, the Opteron was to replace an 0450 stepping 3200. I originally hoped the A64 would get to at least 2.6 but no joy. When I saw what people were getting with these I thought id give it a go. Id be happy with 2.7Ghz but the thought of 2.8 as a real possibility spurred me on.

Heat isnt an issue, its watercooled. Temps are down to 27c idle and 39/40c full load now that the TIM is starting to set.

As for notes, I always keep notes of all my settings. There usefull for future ref.
Ive even dropped the fsb down to 300 and dropped the voltage by 0.025v and it failed after 4 hours  .

I know it cant be a memory error as ive Mem tested it for hours and its stable all the way up to 282FSB.
Its running a 9/10 divider and shows the mem as running at 270. The A64 was running 9 x 275 prime stable for 42 hours. Its ran at that for the last 6 months ish.

i've settled for 2660 at 1.475v, probably would a little higher on those volts but my spyware program keeps messin up whenever i change the overclock for some reason
tis ok if i reinstall but as soon as i change the overclock it messes up again so gonna leave it for a while

*Bump*
Hi again everyone. Finally got my system set up. A few results so far:

250x11 stable @ stock volts (1.4 in bios)
255x11 stable @ 1.45 in bios (see pic)
260x11 needs 1.475 in bios

All on RAM:HTT 3:4 with some crappy kingston value ram (2x512)
I'll find its max at some point (upto about 1.6v probably, got good watercooling)
This is my first go at A64 oveclocking too, piece of cake really :) Any comments/advice appreciated
