Is my 5960X faulty?

is it stable when using it? stock and or overclocked?

software can always be buggy

I also get this in Tomb Raider when running the benchmark sequence LOL.

Has anyone ever seen Lara Croft die in the benchmark sequence? Well you have now. :D

Matt,

There is a separate thread on here somewhere about this very issue, but I can put your mind at rest:-

OPI - quick path interconnect, will fail on these proccessors as it is old technology and not supported on the Haswell E chips. So - if you go to settings or edit menu, can't quite remember which of the intel test program you can select edit and then untick the qpi path. You will then find you can run the full test, and it should pass ok. This is what I did on mine and it was fine.

Hope this helps

Glad to help, but we have not cured the real problem. I have a feeling this could be a driver issue possibly - I take it you have tried completely uninstalling the AMD drivers, and then a fresh install? Try running on standard windows drivers for your graphics and test perhaps?

Also this flickering does not happen in 2d? If not have you tried a new cable from pc to monitor - as I had issues similar to this a few years back and it turned out to be the cable.

If you are overclocking - return everything to stock, with XMP for memory or correct timings and re test - does it still happen?

Cant think of anything else to suggest at the moment - let us know.

Not yet guys. Tried 5 different gpu's, four different ram sticks. It's either the motherboard or the cpu. I've got another 5960X on route so will try that out and if i get the same issues, then it must be the board. Worryingly this is the third Rampage Extreme V board I've had, the first two had pci-e issues as well.

Might be worth looking at the Asus ws board, if the new CPU doesn't want to work.

From my knowledge they have a reputation of just working.

What issue are you still having? if you mean the Lara dying thing it looks like a game related bug/issue to me.

I would try uninstalling Tomb Raider, delete any remaining config files/folders in my documents/user data etc and then re-install it.

My new 5960X arrived and what do you know, no issues at all now. Lara no longer dies in the benchmark sequence, i don't get flickering in every 3d application. I had a faulty cpu, i don't believe it. I'm now doubting if any of those motherboards were faulty, maybe it was the cpu all along.

In other news my 4x290X 8gb cards have arrived, time to assault the benching threads! Happy days. :)

Must admit I am surprised - no doubt you were after all the testing etc, but hey ho, at least all is now well.

It sounds like rubbish to me but then he does work in AMD's community propaganda department so why let an opportunity to smear Intel go to waste. ;)

If the PCI-E hub was at all faulty you'd be getting all sorts of terminal GPU crashes.

Hence my comment of being surprised, but not wishing to fan any flames etc.
