Camera vans on bridges.

either way you will be caught as the camera will point the other direction and get your number plate

Yeah but you have to be a major muppet if you havent slowed by the time you go past them...

If you dont see them as you pass them, you have no business being over the speed limit

:p

What sort of vans are you on about? AFAIK, there's a type that basically only view license plates - it'll pick up your plate, run it through a database and see if there are any out-standing offenses etc (no insurance/mot/speeding etc), and if so the van will radio in to a marked car just down the road who will then pull you over.

If it is this type, it'll work both ways.

So if they are operating in forward facing mode why would the camera be pointing the other way

To convict someone the pictures/video has to show the number plate and the recorded speed.

They can't get your plate if you ride towards them and get off on the same sliproad they are sat on top of.

Plus, how do they measure your speed, via your plate, or using your vehicle as a whole?

They'd have to turn the camera around very quickly :)

The fact is that taliban's only operate in one direction at a given time...

If you are travelling towards a window/open door likely it will catch you front facing..

If you approach the van from the front, likely it will catch you rear facing..

Its not rocket science, learn the signs and adjust your driving

:D

PS. After living years in Northants, I got my first flash/ticket potential in cyprus 4 weeks ago (no notice of prosecution so far) by a traffic ligh camera coz I forgot they do speed as well as light jumping..

80km/h on a 50km/h dual carriageway... lol

CYPRIOT CHILD KILLER!!!!! before anyone else says it

;)

The Handbook of Rules and Guidance for the National Safety Camera Programme for England and Wales 2006/07 introduces further improvements to the signing of safety cameras. It required that from the end of June 2006 the speed limit and camera warning signs should be co-located where permitted and practicable, and also that for fixed cameras this must allow the speed limit sign and camera sign to be visible to the driver in the same view as the camera.

Up in Scotland anyway, the speed camera works out of the back of the van however there is a video camera on the side and front to catch the number plates of bikes etc.

Can you tell the two types apart? I saw a van earlier, parked up with black glass doors pointing directly at me. A few yards down the road there was an Evo VIII (I think) cop car waiting in a lay-by.

Got examples of pics? Not too worried as I'm sure I was doing less than 40mph but still curious.

Do the vans that just get info from your registration also record your speed?
