Camping essentials

Quite a long time and the gas is cheap. Take two for the weekend but you probably won't need both of them.

Is it pre filled with gas?

I'm thinking that if you bought a couple and took them to a festival (say Creamfields...:D), could I use for breakfast/lunch, then use disposable BBQ for dinner.

they fit inside it.

can get them at any supermarket or in bulk off ebay.

easily less than a 5ver for a pack 4 of them in most places.

For your trip reckon you should go for a self inflating mattress, you'll be sorted.

Those suitcase stoves are handy and last a while on a can. Give it a once over before you leave, the build quality is sometimes lacking.

Thanks fellas.

I will look at one of those matresses, best night sleep possible is a must when camping.
Already see a wind up lantern so had that on my list, very practical little things and are quite bright.
The stove looks handy and quite cheap will be ideal for what I need it for.
Already have a tent so that is ok just good sleeping gear needed and I am set!

Why are all the sites for that sleeping bad/mattress combo in $ :/

Right found that stuff and have got this in my basket.

Thermarest Ventra Down Comforter
- Size Regular Colour Canary Yellow

Thermarest LuxuryMap Large Self-Inflating Mattress *edit changed this to regular*

Thermarest Trekker Pillow Case

Will add a lantern, watter bottle, gas stove, gas, cooking untensils and anything else I can think of between now and then. O and a rucksack as well obviously :D

Don't have one at all Emlyn Dewar, should probably get something!

Does anyone who has one of these know how long it lasts?:)

I used mine to cook for 4 people for all of Glastonbury festival and didn't get onto my second 'tin' of gas. Each tin is about a pound too! :)

Superb little things and they usually come in a carry hardcase :)

One of these, a mess-tin, spork, tent, sleeping bag and quality roll mat of sorts and you won't go far wrong.

Unless the bears get you. :(

Weight, insulation and comfort. Airbeds are significantly heavier. They have no insulation (foam/down/fibres) and convection inside them draws heat away, the insulation inside camping mats traps the air and keeps it from moving. It's subjective but I always feel balanced on top of airbeds where on my camping mats I feel more comfortable.

I see, sounds quite good, though i have to say i always wake up boiling when i go camping so I'm not that concerned by heat loss...lol.

How are they for comfort compared to an air bed which i also find i feel sort of perched on top of?

The only essential thing for me when going camping with the family, is a damn good excuse as to why I've gotta leave and get back to my own comfy bed at home !!!! and that's too far from where I'm at, then the car will have to do !

Yes another camping thread from me.

Will be going twice this year and want to be comfortable when I go!

Any recommendations for kit? When I go down to Newquay it will be by train so will be limited to what I can carry.

Was looking at a camp bed but that might be a bit much.
Need a comfy sleeping bag, if not a camp bed, either a blow up bed or a good mat.
Decent cooking utensils, chair(s) to sit on and so forth.
A good back pack will also be vital I suppose.

A tent would help. :p

I got a Gerber Suspension multitool a few years ago before a few camping trips.
Would really recommend having a decent pen knife/multi around, I always seem to be using mine.

Self inflating mattress though!? Luxury! Just camp on some soft grass or fine sand, that's all the mattress you need! :D

You need a gas fridge, work out how to get it there. The beer you can buy once you are there.

Camp near a stream, create some sort of dam to stop beers floating away, keep beers in stream. Win.

Silicone earplugs,
Water bottle.

As for foldup chairs with cup holders they are nice but I'm not convinced they are worth the weight, depends a bit on what you play on doing. If you're going to be just sitting around for a few hours each day then probably worth it.
