would swap the ram for 2x4GB sticks, they dont overclock well with all 4 slots used i believe. also SB chips like 1.5v ram not 1.65v ;)

Not so, Sandybridge uses multipliers not bclk overclocking so the RAM plays little part in overclocking, once its setup its set up. As for the 1.65v thing, dosen't really matter and it'll likely run at under 1.6v anyhow, same kit for me does its rated speed at 1.58v which coincidentally i think is the official SB limit lol.

True enough but it might require more memory controller voltage than a system with 2 sticks. At least that is what I've found when overclocking SB systems.

As for the whole 1.65v issue, remember it is just Intel guidance, most sticks rated for 1.65v will run at 1.5v with the same timings and speed, not sure why this is, might be due to the onboard memory controller and the die shrink over the older 45nm stuff. Either way it doesn't make a whole lot of difference and there is no evidence that 1.65v causes any damage.

mine wouldnt post with 4 sticks fitted. had to start with 2 and then manually set it in the bios before i could add the other 2 sticks. but admittidly it seemed ok after that, but im sure the 1.65v intel would have tested and released the advisory for a reason?

Well I guess you have more experience than me then! ;) That was just what I found after Folding@Home stress testing, some boards are fussy though.

Every rig is different, same with every IMC on a chip, i don't doubt your finding at all :)

I think the offical top spec is 1.575v but no ones seemingly had any issues so far with 1.65v I play it safe with 1.58v tops.

Flight sim. Is that those games that you play with a joystick and pretend you're dogfighting in WWII or something?

get rid of the gtx590! not unless you want it to blow up on you!!! get 2 gtx 580 with the same price of 590!.

on the other note why is this in the cpu section when it should be in GD..

They fixed that. The GTX590 is a good card but the price isn't, get one GTX580 and another if you need it. I can't see any flight sim even at high resolutions (2560x1600 etc) causing a single GTX580 to struggle tbh. They tend to be CPU games anyways, especially FSX, which a 2600K/2500K overclocked will take care of.

Change the SSD as well, better drives are around for the same money.

id get a gtx 590 if you can afford one. Cracking cards tbh.

Ive got one. Ive had a 580, 480 etc so Im not biased as ive had them. True that 2 x 580 is gonna win on a bench against a 590 but at the expense of noise and heat.

GTX590 (ive got the gigabyte version) is a quiet card in comparison. It also gives of less heat than my 480 and around the same as my 580 did.

At the end of the day its your choice. Personally i wanted the flagship card hahaha

Dude, the GTX 590 is two 580s on the same card that have been brought down a peg in order to deal with the massive power and overheating issues it has. Two 580s in SLI will give you a better deal- although Speed's right, one should be plenty.

Out of interest, are you building it yourself or using the PC configurator? There's some serious savings to be had if you're willing to do it yourself.

Oh, and 1200W strikes me as mega overkill for that system, although I am happy to be corrected as ever.
