Can I polish this out?

You could have done it by now!

pesky work getting in the way of daylight hours!

It's hard to be certain from a picture, but it does look like it's just transfer from the other car. You (and Chips Away) seem to think so too.

I've been painting cars for over 20 years but I'd certainly have a go at "polishing" it out first. Anything slightly abrasive should do it, from a decent all in one polish to T cut, polishing compound, even a decent toothpaste! I'd stick with something designed for the job though, just to be safe. A bottle of something and a few cloths will be much cheaper than that quote you've had, and elbow grease costs nothing :)

Totally, having never really used T Cut I really wanted to hear you can't screw it up, to be honest it had never occurred to me to try removing some of the paint with a credit card or similar either, makes perfect sense.

Looking forward to the weekend now lol

Yes, there are several different ways you could attack that, but a mild abrasive is probably the safest. Personally I'd be starting with a solvent, but that can go horribly wrong in inexperienced hands, or you can use a stripe removal disc, but again they need to be treated with caution, especially on plastic parts.

Have fun, and be sure to post up the results :)

You will only damage it with T Cut if you apply it with an angle grinder :p

Previous keeper of my current company car "sorted out" the scratches on it (almost every panel) with T-Cut. Metallic black now with added dull patches of paint to highlight every scratch.

T-cut may make the paint "cloudy", but your supposed to polish it after (with normal polish) which will get that out. Your not supposed to use T-cut and just leave it :P

Another Cif user/abuser here :) Use it once a year to get rid of any black marks/lines from the wifes door mirror housings. Cif can be pretty abrasive so make sure you use a small amount and make sure both the cloth and the area being Cif-ed are wet :D

Me too. Over in europe at my mums during the summer I took a bottle of shampoo and my washmit just to give the car a quick wash. After 1300 miles the wheels were covered in brake dust and oil and nothing would remove it. Pop under mums sink and a bottle of cif brought them up a treat!

So, have you had a go yet? We're all eager to see the end result.

Not yet, my car is absolutely filthy and I've had no time to get to it.. I do 20k+ a year so it's rarely in a place/condition where I can do anything to it beyond fill the tank over and over again.

I might get to it on Sunday, promise there'll be pics.

Main issue at the moment is getting it clean but I might just wash the bit I need to do and get on with it.

Hurry up Christmas is coming lol. Being serious now just get the washed for £6 by a car wash gang grab some scratch x and have ago - you never know till you try!

I cant handle the suspense anymore, have you had a go yet OP?

Lol.. I bought some of this http://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...orers/t-cut-colour-fast-scratch-remover-white on Saturday but by the time i got home it was raining.

It might have to be next weekend now!

To be fair this is the exact reason I didn't go with chips away now, it's going to be filthy until something like March!

Major thread fail :)

However were you going to give the car up to chips away for at least a few hours if you can't even mange to spend half an hour seeing through the advice handed out here :D

Thread delivers... happy now? I am! That's £193 saved lol :)
