You can say that about many niche hobbies though. for example, have you ever tried to ask advice on getting a quick sharpen on some kitchen knives from a knife enthusiast? before you know it, you will have 4 different Japanese waterstones at £20+ each and a tool to hold the knife at the right angle for £100
or... you couldn't sharpen your £30 5 knife set with a £8 knife sharpener, which makes more sense.
OP could probably take his car somewhere who could machine polish and LSP it for maybe £50? (IDK) and that would keep it looking awesome for 8 months or so, and keep it looking better than before for much longer than that and that would probably be money well spent, especially if its going to cut the paint back and get rid of most of the scratches permanently.
But hey, if its a company car and he doesn't really care about it, then thats fine.
You should see my car, beyond polishing on one side lol
Yeah it's sort of a company car.. It belongs to me but paid for from an allowance and whilst it would be awesome to have something really nice the fact it has 137k on it and the front has load of chips and there's a scratch down the passenger sill and a few door dings where idiots have hit me in car parks means it's just not really practical to make it nice.
I did have the interior properly valeted recently though, that was amazing and I have control over what goes on in there
