No, but it makes it a hell of a lot easier.
In my experience, people that say it doesn't help at least a little, tend to be either from another planet or don't know what it's like to have no money (i.e. the silver spoon brigade).

What exactly can't you buy with money that you can get through not having money.
Don't make me laugh.True friends, love, etc. Sounds gay but it's 100% true.
I wouldn't have to work for the rest of my life; seems pretty long term to me.
Yes it can buy happiness.
It sounds to me like you're looking at things the wrong way round, i.e. high earners have this attitude to get the money in the first place.
Of course money can buy happynes.

I for one would be a hell of a lot happier with £200 million in the bank and if I ever got depressed I'd just go and spend till I'm happy again.
So.. in your opinions, do you think money buys happiness?
My opinion is yes .. to an extent though. If someone gave you £200 million and no one would know apart from say close relatives and friends, I guarantee you would be a much happier person..
If you got £100 million right now, no strings attached, you wouldnt have a big stupid grin on your face
but what REALLY makes people happy and motivated isn't goods and services, it's self-actualisation, being the best you possibly can be at everything you possibly can do. And money cannot, categorically, buy that.
Hope I'm not being too cynical, but how many women do you see dating tramps because it's true love? Sad but perhaps true.
Yeah, sling some Maslow at the doubters

Hmmm, I think you're looking at it the wrong way. It might be great at first but where's the long term fulfillment? It might make things easier in the short term but what have you go to work for? What have you got to achieve? Where's the sense of satisfaction from sitting back after a hard day's work and feeling proud of what you've done and the money you've earned? It feels a lot better buying something when you've worked hard for it.
There are a lot of things money can't buy - it might sound trite but you're a very shallow person if you don't believe that.
