Can money buy happiness?

Of course it does.

With money most of the stress from life is removed. You don't have to worry about bills or how you can ever afford to buy something nice or go somewhere far away.

With money you have the freedom to do what you want, when you want.

A lot of people get trapped into the desire to make even more money though, so even when they have millions in the bank they just can't stop working. You'd also have to be aware that a lot of your new "friends" would probably only be there for your money, but as long as you understand that then both of you can benefit out of it.

Life wouldn't be perfect (It never can be) but it would be a hell of a lot easier.

If it ment I never had to work and could spend my life doing things I enjoy and spend time with my friends and family then it would definately make me happy

It sounds to me like you're looking at things the wrong way round, i.e. high earners have this attitude to get the money in the first place.

Of course money can buy happynes.

What exactly can't you buy with money that you can get through not having money.

Hmmm, I think you're looking at it the wrong way. It might be great at first but where's the long term fulfillment? It might make things easier in the short term but what have you go to work for? What have you got to achieve? Where's the sense of satisfaction from sitting back after a hard day's work and feeling proud of what you've done and the money you've earned? It feels a lot better buying something when you've worked hard for it.

There are a lot of things money can't buy - it might sound trite but you're a very shallow person if you don't believe that.

I for one would be a hell of a lot happier with £200 million in the bank and if I ever got depressed I'd just go and spend till I'm happy again.

Happier not happy.
It can't buy you true love, it can make it easier.
It can't keep your family and freinds alive and happy, but again it can make it easier.

As I said it helps a hell of a lot, but you can't buy the thins that are most important.

So.. in your opinions, do you think money buys happiness?

My opinion is yes .. to an extent though. If someone gave you £200 million and no one would know apart from say close relatives and friends, I guarantee you would be a much happier person..

No, because you swap one set of problems for another.

If you think that much money would actually make you happy, in the long-term, forget it.

If you got £100 million right now, no strings attached, you wouldnt have a big stupid grin on your face

Yes, but that's not permanent happiness.

If you want to ignore all the research ever done on human happiness, go right ahead...but what REALLY makes people happy and motivated isn't goods and services, it's self-actualisation, being the best you possibly can be at everything you possibly can do. And money cannot, categorically, buy that.

Most jobs in this world are ultimately pointless in the end anyway. Unless you're doing something which directly affects peoples lives, then what you do have to show for your hard work apart from the pay check at the end of the month?

I can understand people who save / improve people’s lives or craft something out of nothing getting fulfilment from a job but at the end of the day loads of people are just shuffling paper around offices.

I don't think for one second money can literally buy happyness. Of course there is just reward for great effort and so on, which is very much a different question. And it is good to be able to meet all bills that come in too, but that again doesn't nescessarily make happyness, moreover, paying bills just keeps the status quo.

I believe love can buy you happyness. But not money.
