can smoke go through walls?

Without more information can't really know for sure but if theres solid brickwork inbetween an no open windows/venting as such it shouldn't really.

Mind you the previous occupants of the other house of the semi-detached we live in would smoke something that the smell of would on ocassion make its way through to the adjacent bedroom even with windows closed - and they weren't exactly trying to advertise what they were smoking.

There are plenty of ways smoke can go through to next door. Through the roof if you're a terrace, through the floor, ventilation, windows, chimneys, cracks that have developed over years.

i only smoke normal cigarettes i could undertstand if it was if other stuff that is potent .... our house classed as a semi detached i think out bedroom are joined but we have an alley way under them.

Whilst i doubt he's smelling it through your wall, I think many smokers can be quite unsympathetic to how obtrusive the smell can be to a non-smoker. I unwittingly bought a games console from a smoker recently and even after a disassemble and deep clean I'm still finding the smell distracting when in the same room. To the seller though it probably smelt fine.

You can blow smoke through bricks all day and wont smell it the other side!

Are people mad smoke goes up, temperature of exhaled smoke will always be above 37c. ;)

So unless you live in the desert its going up, not left or right. Hence yellowing ceiling of smokers homes! :p

You should really move on to rolling your own as the smell is much more pleasant, or rather less harsh, and it's considerably cheaper anyway.

actually trying to quit now i rarely smoke at work ...i accasionally use one the e cigs aswell more vapour comes off one them than a normal cigerette ...can that travel through walls too lol

that what grinding me as ive said im always decorating so i dont nasty yellow ceilings :@ ....im convinced she had a craft cigarette inside and blaming us

Wouldn't suprise me at all if her partner (assuming she has one or maybe someone else who was concerned about the kids) objected/blamed her and she tried to shift the blame and then had to play the part and come knocking to complain.

she actually was the one to come and knock the door aswell and it her at home all day while he's at work ...im really starting to thing shes had a cigarette in the house and blamed it on me .....they did offer to let me in and show me this mark on the wall or roof but i didnt feel comfortable going into there house wish i did now

Id offer to go see it so u can see were the gap may be as u can look into it and patch it up if necessary as you would hate to put kiddies in harm from smoke. I imagine its what you think though and shes smoked indoors though

If he can smell it, the smoke (however small) must be making it way through somehow. Otherwise, he has no reason to know you're smoking in the house. It's unreasonable to ask you to stop, but not unreasonable to ask you to find out how/why it's happening.

Smoke in a children's bedroom is pretty bad.

the girl next door is also a smokey and smokes on back door under their kids bedroom

Just read this. It's far more likely to be the issue.

The only impermeable brick structure is the one in your mind. Of course cigarette smoke can travel through walls - this is the natural medium of the alien ghost demonons that carry their messages to us (well me anyway) and KNOW YOU DARKEST DESIRES.

The good news is that there are many ways to approach these local disputes. For example my neighbour complained about my dog getting excited by bitches and barking at night, so I had him castrated. After this he never complained again.

There's 7 Polskis renting the house we're attached to and they all smoke.
Our bathroom absolutely reeks of cigarette smoke. I assume it's getting into our bathroom via the floorboards. (under the bath)

No-one in our house smokes (I used to but gave up 16 years ago)
