Can't find an image of it but my first bit of proper tech was an lcd game back in the late 80s - IIRC you controlled a submarine at the bottom with hostile ships and aircraft above.
I used to have one of those. I bought it in an Airport Duty free shop on one of my first flights abroad. I sold it years later on the auction site & made a profit on it believe it or not!
My 1st bit of tech was a Digital LED watch my folks bought me for my 10th birthday & this was in the mid 70's when all the schoolkids had them.
You can't really say that a transistor radio was a bit of tech since they had been around in various forms for decades.
I would say the calculator in the early 70s was my first bit of tech because it took over from my slide rule.
How can I not say that as my question was" Can you remember what your first bit of 'Tech' was?" Matters not that how long they had been out and it certainly was not ages as you put it. But it was my first bit of tech.
Second hand BBC Micro (model B, c. 1981) in 1986 aged 8 at the time. The machine is still going strong almost 35 years on, but my Philips RGB monitor went bang 1-2 years ago. They're becoming hard to find, so will probably have to get a scan converter to use on a PC monitor.
Mine was a 'Major Morgan' you put card overlays on some keys and pressed the corresponding symbols which formed a song. Kind of a musical speak and spell I suppose. He's retired now.
