Other than it physically fitting is there any reason you could not transport a washing machine in a car?

I ask because I know they are always shipped upright in a van, and to go into a car would mean it would be on its side.

Any reason that this might be a bad idea?

Ta :)

you transporting it somewhere or is it new ?

new ones usually have bits fitted to stop the drum moving in bad ways during transport

apart from that i see no reason not too

unless you crash and get decapitated by a few hundred kgs of washer

One of the selling points of the new Volvo V70 is that you can fit a washing machine, in its packaging, in the rear loadbay.

Transporting a washing machine in a car invalidates your insurance.

are you sure?

Surely if it's secured it should be ok (IIRC our car has a few tie down positions in the boot for securing things).

The Washing machine can't be much worse in the back of the car than say a set of heavy luggage, or something like an invalid scooter (which can weigh more than the average washing machine).

If it's new then there is no problem as they have transit bolts to stop it moving about too much, it it's an old one try and find the bolts, for some reason mine are packed away under the stairs, it not just don't drive too erratic and watch out for all the old smelly water that always comes out of the hoses

It will easily fit in the car.

Bah. I can lift one and im avg size and build if not a litle heavy!

You could, I can and I'm scrawny but having someone else to help you do it would be a very good idea. They're very large so although you could lift 40kg, because of its width and height you risk hurting yourself. Try and bend your knees and all that but again the size makes that difficult by yourself.
