Canadian Grand Prix 2010, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal - Race 8/19

Can't see Button winning unless Hamilton stops, messes up or crashes. Lewis seems to be favoured by Mclaren as he has gelled with the team much better.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you, but if we get a race with multiple safety car incidents and damp/wet periods, requiring decent strategic calls, Button has shown he is head and shoulders better than Hamilton/McLaren at making those decisions.

For basic speed Hamilton easily beats Button, but when you add in strategic calls, Button makes up a lot of ground. We have seen this happen when Button won 2 races due to his strategic calls. Hamilton, in those same races, was very very fast, yet still finished behind Button, mainly because he left the strategic deicisions to his team, who are woeful in this area.

I still feel though that on a dry track, the RedBull car is easily the best and it will require a series of Hamilton "special" laps to beat the RedBull cars.

It has to be Mclaren for me the Mclaren suffers in high speed turns but since there are none in this coming race and there are lots of long full throttle areas I expect McLaren to use the straight line speed advantage they have had all season.

With the corners mostly relying on mechanical grip there is nothing to stop the cars getting very close to get a tow on the straights, hopefully we'll see lots of overtaking in the whole race.

@sunama - That's probably a fair assessment, but I don't think you give the McLarens enough credit, the car has come on a lot this season, and I think they're closer to RB than ever. Montreal also suits their cars better, they have a chance to outright outperform Red Bull this weekend, providing Red Bull haven't made any large steps forward.

The difference between Button and Hamilton is age and experience I think. Button has the better head on him at this point, and Hamilton is more like Button when he'd been around for a few seasons, but Hamilton's a lot faster and more talented than Button has ever been. I have no doubt Hamilton will go on to win more world championships.

Not sure why some dislike Massa so much? He's a solid driver.

Like the last race, I'm going to say again I'd like to see Renault move up another notch.

Has the circuit been resurfaced more comprehensively this time? I remember turn 10 being particularly bad.

McLaren are bringing new front and rear wings to their cars for this weekend so I'm hoping Lewis can take advantage of this and put both feet on the top spot of the podium. I want to see him celebrate too, he deserves it for the drives he has done this year ! :)

Yep hope so too. They think they can get ahead of Mercedes - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/84206.

Indeed, and if anyone can take them there in Montreal, it's Kubica. Petrov also seems to have settled in now somewhat, after trashing his car a few times! Certainly promise there.

The article also brought up another point, not sure how much we've talked about it, but brake cooling. Am I right in thinking Red Bull were struggling with this already? Montreal has some huge stops, and this could be an important reliability factor, as well as maybe influencing some of the overtaking.

Can't believe I'm going to miss this.
Favourite track along with spa. So glad it is back. Nice track with added bonus of no stupidly big run offs on every corner.

.

1 race.

His great decision in the one was his only option after cooking his inters first.

Hopefully looking forward to some good McLaren dominance this weekend :D

Me to, and if it is going to be a wet Sunday like some are reporting then surely we wont be disappointed, unless Lewis decides to listen to his team instead of his own brain !

I was going around the track earlier on the Playstation, makes me want the new F1 2010 game even more.

You have to agree Hamilton does not do any stratgic calls, he leaves it down to teh team which often make mistakes.

unless Lewis decides to listen to his team instead of his own brain !

He never makes his own calls, unless he starts I can only see him coming multi world champion and not an all time great.

I also have to start wondering if Hamilton is faster. They have been so so close this season, it's hard to tell. You can certainly see the difference in driving though.

I only hope it stays that way and we get some more dog fights between them 'cos after watching the RBRs two weeks ago self destruct then our boys going at it, I was hanging off the edge of my chair ... it was brilliant !

So yeah, may they remain close and the good, clean fighting continues. :D

I wouldn't necessarily say the team make mistakes, they can only judge the weather and the strategy based off of telemetry and such. They aren't actually on track!

Hamilton should trust his instinct with it though :)

Spot on ! like EJ says, maybe the team relies to much on computers rather than driver/team experience

3 of the first 4 races of the season were in wet/damp conditions.

After those 4 races, Button was sitting top of the pile. Those stats don't lie.

He bested the likes of Hamilton and Alonso, both of whom I rate as the best in F1.

Don't get me wrong, over the course of a full season, Hamilton should be able to blow him away, but in a wet/damp race, Button is definitely up there with the best of them and based on the early part of the season, McLaren (who make Hamilton's strategy calls) are absolutely abysmal. Sometimes I feel as if McLaren are actually trying to make Hamilton lose the race.

My gut feelling tells me though that this will be a dry race. I can't remember the last time we had a wet race in Canada.
