Canadian Grand Prix 2010, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal - Race 8/19

If times remain close for mclaren, you have to fancy button for win in rain. All comes down to lewis not making his own choices. It doesn't sound like he ever has in his career.

Looking reasonable for McLaren and Mercedes so far. No real shock given a) the straight-line speed of that McLaren and b) the power of that Mercedes motor.

Will be interesting to see how the RBRs go around here if/when they fit the F-duct mind....

It'll be interesting to see how the RBR's go around here on Saturday even without the F-duct. Given their superiority, I still think that getting pole shouldn't be too much of a problem, but we must wait and see.

That's the thing though sunama - this is a power track, and they've got a Renault motor out back. I know the FIA have let pretty much everyone - and Renault in particular - catch up to the Merc via careful manipulation (read: ignoring) of the homologation rules but it's clear to me that the Merc is still the most powerful engine out there. Add that to the McLaren F-duct being the best-realised of the field, and the small matter of having the current and immediate past champions driving for them....I don't think RBR are necessarily a given for pole around here, never mind the race win.

And that's before we even get to the steady improvements that Mercedes are making to their own car, and Schumacher's rise back up the grid since dumping that broken chassis after China. Or Kubica punching well above the weight of the Renault car. Or Ferrari lurking in the background. And the Force India isn't exactly a slow car at power tracks. Oh, and the brake situation around this place could be interesting - McLaren can afford to go larger on their brake ducts with their straight-line speed advantage, RBR can't. And they've had more than a few brake issues this season, with Canada being traditionally tough on brakes it could be dicey.

If a Red Bull is on pole and goes on to win, then their strike rate of winning from pole so far this year will be just 50%. Pretty damned pathetic for an oh-so superior car ;)

If you look at the speed trap figures for Kubica and Petrov it's pretty clear it's not the Renault engine that gives Red Bull the lower top speed, thats just the latest excuse - KERS,F-Duct, engine equality - there's always something that unfairly penalises Red Bull ;)

Probably not, ubt he doens't necessarily have to. An incident at the front or a strategy decision in the wet (good for him or bad the others) and he could get thrid if he's close enough to the front.

It's a chance, but not a very good one. I think he might be the 4th/5th fastest driver, but he'll still need luck to get on the podium.

I missed first practice, a friend told me there was a rather large crowd attending which is strange for a Friday. This can only be a good thing though.

4 Merc powered cars up front already :D

Could Shumi be on for a podium here guys ? I'd like to see the "old boy" up there again, just for nostalgias sake of course.

Bit of a shocker to see Kubica up there again ... was he throwing the car around again like he did at Monaco ?

Definitely watching 2nd practice. Kinda wish F1 was always on at this time in the day.
