I'd say Hamilton is consistently fast.
The problem is that he realises that now is game-time. This is it. If he is going to "break" Rosberg, it has to be now, so he has put an immense amount of pressure on himself. And what you saw today was pressure.
I said this as far back as 2008. If Hamilton is the lead driver and the darling of the team, his performance will be Alonso-esque. However, the moment he is not getting preferential treatment, problems appear. We saw this at McLaren after Button arrived. This will definitely give Rosberg hopes of beating his team-mate across a full season.
If RBR were within striking distance, I'd say that Vettel would be favourite to beat both Nico and Ham BUT Merc still have a minimum 0.6s/lap advantage and we are already nearing the half way stage, which is the point at which RBR needed to be level with Merc, to mount a challenge.
And as for Alonso - its getting unbearable for me to see the best driver in F1 at Ferrari. They are clearly going nowhere and he surely has to sign up with another team soon. How many years is he prepared to let pass before he acknowledges that Ferrari just are not good enough?
R.Denis was looking on while his drivers just couldnt get the best out of their car today. Using the Merc engine, there cars qualified 9 and 12. Pitiful. I'm sure he was thinking that these 2 drivers need to be replaced if McLaren ever want to win a race. Either that or they will need a car 1s/lap faster than everybody else. For me, McLaren need Alonso and Alonso needs McLaren - what are McLaren waiting for?
