Canadian Grand Prix 2014, Montréal - Race 7/19

Why is Brundle banging on about them being 100th's to 1000th's apart. They were half a second apart on proper representative laps this morning. It was only when Hamilton was held up or made a mistake that the gap was very very close. Hamilton was held up by Kyvat through the final chicane when Rosberg ended up 3/100th's behind, then on older tires and having had a small lock up on his first proper lap, he went miles faster.
 
So apparently all the upgrades that ferrari put in yesterday were stripped back due to reliability issues....w...t...I thought most of them were aero, surely only the new engine cover could potentially cause issues with the heat.
 
Depends, you can deflect too much air around the car and not into the sidepods I guess, and if the aero was part of the side pods.

There is also the fact that aero parts can break off, a fin above the side pods being made a bit too weak so flexed or risked snapping off. Did Kimi lose a piece of body work yesterday, or was it a Williams, can't remember. Airflow not hitting the air ducts around the brakes could also cause breaks getting too hot and being a problem.

Now did Merc's turn the engine down, or just make sure they go through, or have they misjudged the strategy with doing a slow lap then making the second full lap the fast lap. Basing that on this morning with lower temps as the super softs have made a much bigger difference this afternoon.
 
Alonso was beating felipe's time on the first and second sector so it's definitely top speed that limits ferraris time.

Think the mercs are going to turn it up a notch in q3.
 
As they start on tires here they may have done a banker on the supersoft then go out and see if they can go even faster on the soft and start on the longer running tire. See what they come out on, obviously if that was the idea then going too fast on the supersoft would make it very hard to beat on the softs.

EDIT:_ surprised Merc went out again on the supersofts, and the Williams, completely pointless surely?
