Canadian Grand Prix 2015, Montréal - Race 7/19

Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso will have use of an upgraded Honda Formula 1 engine at the Canadian Grand Prix, after the Japanese manufacturer confirmed it will be introducing a performance step this weekend.

Motorsport.com revealed earlier that both Honda and Ferrari have elected to use some of their token allocation ahead of the race in Montreal.

Ferrari has used three tokens while Honda has elected to use two tokens.

Although Ferrari has declined to elaborate on its exact plans with its upgraded engines, Honda confirmed to Motorsport.com that it will be using the new parts immediately.

It is unclear in which area Honda has elected to use its tokens, but it will likely be revealed in official FIA documentation over the Canada weekend.

Power circuit

Honda’s F1 engine chief Yasuhisa Arai said in Monaco that his company was mindful of the horsepower requirements needed for Canada.

It is those demands that could have prompted the push to bring in tokens earlier than originally expected.

"Canada is a power circuit, so we need more power," he said. "But it is also a heavy stopping circuit, so braking and energy recovery is very important.

"I know that we need more power, but it is not so easy to get that. So it is how to deliver the MGU-K power for that kind of high-speed circuit.”

Considering you have both Mercedes, Ferrari, Williams and Lotus that will probably finish in the top 10 I doubt the Mclaren will find enough performance to finish in the points. Would be nice though but I doubt it.

And half the profit FOM get from race's goes into the pool that gets distrubited to the teams, before someone pulls the "Bernie should stop being greedy" card ;). Bernies greed is directly linked to how much money the teams get. If you want the teams to have more money, then you need Bernie to be more greedy...

But on the flip side of that, if most of the tracks were still within Europe, the freight and accommodation costs that the teams have to pay each year would be greatly reduced, therefore giving them more money for things like development.

They need all the power they can get. Love this race always exciting still cant forget Jenson win here from where he was in the race

My favourite circuit of the season - can't wait to go there one day.

JB's victory in the epic (both in excitement and sheer duration) is my favourite grand prix of all time. That last lap!

My guess is that Honda have made the engine this weekend from a nice 85% dark chocolate rather than the weak and watery Dairy Milk.

Should last a little bit longer.

Looks like Friday practice will be wet but qualifying and the race dry. This sets us up for a great race as P3 is not long enough to do long run testing and qualifying setup. Lewis for the win hopefully and praying both Ferrari's get in front of Nico.

Drivers press conference is getting good. They asked Massa about his complaining about Verstappen, Verstappen was asked and mentioned people should remember last years Canada race, Massa was asked a question about how his accident was different... the response wasn't particularly accurate. According to Massa Verstappen deserved a penalty because he's inexperienced and shouldn't make those mistakes, then says Perez moved under braking where Romain didn't, which isn't particularly accurate either.

Massa just being a bit of a loudmouth. I still find him grating, having a go and blaming inexperience when he fails to finish race after race because he has zero awareness of what is going on around him.

then says Perez moved under braking where Romain didn't, which isn't particularly accurate either.

Well, it is, as in Grosjean braked in a straight line and Perez moved away from the line he was on, towards the line Massa was taking. Hence the way the penalties were issued (which were, for once, warranted).

Really lots a lot of reposect for Massa and they way he has been getting on, he sounds jealous, he's made so many stupid mistakes himself and then trying to bend the truth in a sport that's monitored in every possible way.

Haven't watched the presser yet, recorded to watch later, but Max calling Grosjean out for brake testing him? That's a bit much :o
