Canadian Grand Prix 2016, Montréal - Race 7/21

Horrendous crash, can't be good.

I think it's the second impact that's the bad one. Don't have the onboard for that one as it wipes the camera out.

Apparently he was airlifted to hospital for further evaluation of his shoulder and hand.

Aaaah.. Connor Daly was involved. Can't say I'm too surprised then, he was a disaster area in GP2

That was great. Vettel's becoming a real showman.

He has become a great character. Best thing he did was to leave red bull.

To be fair, those seagulls would destroy the front wing.

What is Hamilton's problem with starting?

Overheating clutch, has been a real problem for Mercedes for a while now. Seems to affect Hamilton more than Rosberg for some reason.

Lol.

I forgot about the last one.

The thing is though it is easy to be jokey when you are under no pressure.

Thing is under no real pressure Vettel is funny and I can listen to him, at the start of a season with no pressure, preseason, or after a win... I can't listen to Rosberg, absolutely no personality when on camera. Hamilton describing what the stuff on steering wheel does, taking Davidson through a pole lap, an away from the track interview or whatever, he's interesting and gives good information. Rosberg is just an awkward guy, it may be a purely on camera thing, he might be the funniest guy ever away from cameras but I'll never know. As a sports 'star', as a personality for the fans, he's an awkward kinda weird guy regardless of the situation.

He's just even worse when under pressure, after a loss or an incident.

It's interesting how people perceive things differently. I like Hamilton for instance, but when I watch him speaking in interviews he grates on me a bit with his put on American twanged accent and all this America/Hollywood persona stuff he puts on. Your British mate, from Stevenage.

Kimi is just Kimi, great on the radio, one word answers in interviews - if you think about it he is a lot weirder than Rosberg - but he is such a cemented character that we don't really think about it, his "weirdness" is what makes him funny.

Thing with Rosberg is sometimes he tries to make a joke but it fails - it's like he doesn't really grasp humour well - he made a joke in the presser the last race where he said "you two take your fight outside" but I think it's the way he delivers the line or his tone or something where you just go :| and it's not funny at all, even though he means for it to be. I don't dislike him but he wouldn't be the most fun on a night out, or maybe he is - maybe away from all the media he's a totally different character... I hear a lot of the drivers like him and he's well within their circle so who knows really, unless you know them.

And apparantly Kimi never shuts up when he's away from the cameras just thinking about what my mate told me (whos been to his house and knows his parents quite well) :D

And lastly.... :D

I'm really hoping the season continues on this trend and the title battle swings to Hamilton vs Vettel.

Would love for Ferrari to be more competitive going forward. Realist in me suspects it might not be as close in Baku but you never know!

I'm warming to Vettel, didn't like him at all in the red bull days (but I don't like red bull as a team tbh)

I've always been a Hamilton fan but recently find him annoying in some interviews, sometimes he just seems to have a chip on his shoulder, but other times he is fine like in that interview with Vettel about the seagulls.

Rosberg just seems like a spoilt brat at times. Don't like his smug attitude when he's winning, don't like his attitude when he's losing and think there are plenty of drivers who currently deserve the Mercedes seat over him

I never use to like Vettel and frankly as Ferrari fan I wasn't keen on him but tbh he's been quite a lot better than I imagined, comes across a lot more likeable and quite funny. I also liked that he didn't criticise the team following the race (I certainly was haha) despite arguably being stung by strategy.

Hamilton I think had the chip of having not won since last season and it was becoming more evident as rosberg kept winning, especially isolating himself during drivers parades, demeanour in interviews etc. He seems a bit more relaxed now since winning back to back.

I think Rosberg is quick (in one lap pace and hence does alright in qualifying) so he's not utterly devoid of talent but I think where he takes a considerable step down is in terms of racecraft and we all know Sundays are what matter. He simply isn't at the same leve as Ham, Vet, Alo, Ric etc. He should be driving at a midfield team and not a works seat.

"I brake for animals" was comedy genius from Vettel. Otherwise, I thought it was an ok race - not up to the normal standard of Canada - and bordered on the dull. Not Monaco dull, but below average. Still, one can't expect epic races at every venue every time they visit. Really looking forward to seeing the race at Baku. Would love to visit that one.

Kimi being a chatterbox away from camera is why I added the caveat that away from the camera Rosberg might be a really hilarious interesting guy but on camera he's just weird.

It's that PR front and PC bullcrap we all hate, Kimi just ignores that and tells his engineers to shut up or asks what the **** another driver is doing. Rosberg tries to be 'normal' but fails really badly at it, that is actually weird. Kimi is just different, not weird. Being different doesn't stand out as much as trying to be normal and being so bad at it.

I think more than anything sense of humour is a big thing, Kimi has one, Rosberg appears to miss every joke, get awkward by responding to jokes seriously(that vettel/ham/rosberg conference last year.....cringe), then as you say he tries to tell a joke but has no ability to do so

But the Hamilton stuff, he's probably not spent more than 2 days in Stevenage since he was 18. I don't know if you know this but if you go and live somewhere else you generally change your accent. Your accent in the first place is because you mimic those around you but most people do this throughout their lives and accents change. For someone who spends the majority of his time overseas and with an international mix of drivers, friends, in countries where the same mix of nationalities live like Monaco, and hangs out with a lot of American friends it's natural he would have a, not as much American accent as a kind of neutral mix of accents. I can't stand any PR type speeches you get on the podium, but I understand why they happen, get paid 5mil a year and not have to put up with the PR/sponsorship game or get paid 25mil a year and be a corporate shill on the podium.. pretty easy choice. Of the podium Hamilton/Vettel/Ricciardo are all funny guys who can talk well about the car or anything else. Rosberg, urgghh, I honestly can't stand listening to him talk about anything in any situation.

He's always isolated himself on the driver parade and over the years we have fans and pundits alike saying he hates everyone on the grid, or everyone hates him, or he's a not nice guy... it's all crap.

It's simple, different people gear up for sports events differently. Some listen to opera, some listen to dance, some listen to heavy metal, some joke around and some sit quietly in the corner. You do what gets you in the best place to focus on the upcoming performance be that a race, a football game, a play on stage or an exam. Hamilton goes quiet before a race, sticks his headphones in and listens to Barry Manilow to get focused.
