Cannot install dot net framework

Windows Module Installer is in the msconfig services yes, I believe that's the service that starts the trusted installer service running.

I've done some digging on the error code I'm getting (800B0100) and it seems to be related to unregistered/corrupt DLL's.

I've downloaded the Windows Update Readiness tool but it hasn't helped, I've also manually registered a few DLL's that the MS KB sites recommended but still nothing.

It's not just this .Net update that fails by the looks of it, there's one or two others failing as well =/

I have a different issue.

I was playing around on a virgin Vista SP1 install, testing out some HTPC software. I tried to install MediaPortal but it needed .net 3.5 sp1. So I downloaded it. ( The download itself was very fast )

The 3.5 SP1 installer is slooooooooow. What is it doing?

I aborted it in disgust.

Some googling shows that others are having the same problem, even with very fast machines.

----------

EDIT : Installed SP2. Downloaded .NET 3.5 standalone by mistake, thought it was .NET 3.5 SP1 standalone. :o

Anyway, .NET 3.5 standalone install now took less than a minute. Then installed .NET 3.5 SP1 standalone on top. Also took less than a minute.

Don't know what made it fast... SP2 or using the standalone installers. :p

Working my way through the list Burnsy, no luck yet though.

I've got it from simply failing to it finishing the install and then saying "1 Update not needed" =/

So we're progressing at least.

Bah no luck.

No updates will install and rather than saying "Failed" with an error code, they now just say "X Updates Not Needed"
