Canon 6D MKII Announced

How many people are going to be buying a £2k camera to shoot holiday footage on?

You are missing the whole advantage of shooting in 4k, which is not usually native 4k viewing, but the ability to edit the video with no perceptible loss of quality on conventional sized displays, you can even crop 4k video without even any loss of resolution when transcoding to a 1080p file. Higher resolution video is always better for editing regardless of the display resolution!

No dual card slot is shocking I have to admit, all Nikon full frames have dual cards and even their cheap D7200 crop has dual slots for gods sake.

I agree Caporegime the high video res for editing is a big advantage and of course most people will not spend 2k on a DSLR were there are so many alternatives. I think Canon has aimed this 6D2 at 6D1 users and APS-C users who want to upgrade. That is were problem lays in that it is a lot of money for not much of an up grade / spec.
I have watched and read too many reviews / articles on canon users switching over to Sony. I love my canon 7D and my 400D, EOS 50 before that, however Sony are offering so much for the money.

a1ex2001 that were canon is lacking as the market has more on and shifted so nikon and canon need to catch up and be innovative again. With Sony offering the A7 range starting from £1,000 up to £2,500 for full frame you can understand the appeal. For me there are still quirky menu issues with A7's and Canon's menu system is fairly straight forward. I think Canon can and should be able to produce a much higher spec body. I do hope that canon and nikon do not have mass load of dslr camera body stocks that they need to shift before they can think about designing newer and better one's.
I think also people expect more bang for their buck and that is why being a 7d1 user I did not upgrade to the 7D2. As the spec just was not enough of an upgrade to get me to spend £1,400 on a new dslr body !
That could be the same problem with current 6D1 owners !

This is overpriced, especially when the 5div can be had for a few more hundred on grey websites

You cant compare the uk rrp of £1999 with a camera thats been out over a year 5D4 on import for £2295.

You can compare the import price in a month or so, when its released id say £1550-£1650 maybe a little more say £200 less than RRP to tempt folk for a new toy, and in 4 years time £920.

Why does everyone do this when a new camera is released give it a few months for the early adopter premium to die and it will be much more sensibly priced especially from a grey importer.

Even in 6 months time with prices down to perhaps £1,650 it is still a very expensive full frame dslr. I have seen used Sony A7 for under £800 which has good AF and is FF.
I would love a FF camera I am just not prepared to pay well over 1k for is still a basic entry level FF DSLR !

Can't say I'm particularly bothered by the lack of 4K or dual card slots.

The lack of decent video suggests to me that the sensor could be/hopefully is optimised for photos (which is what I want it for!).

So once the used price comes down to the £1300 range I'll be upgrading!

Love that statement, which while true doesn't really do the level of tech in the camera justice this clearly isn't a cheapy consumer grade camera

I also couldn't care less about the video side of things but unfortunately it's nothing as as sensible as that.
It's simply handicapped by design so Canon can ensure its sales of higher end and dedicated video hardware are not hurt.

Which loads of electronics companies not just canon have been doing for decades so why would you expect this to be any different? It's a fantastic stills camera and a very capable video camera not absolute bleeding edge in either but more than 90% of people will ever need and for everyone else there is the 5D mkiv which is of course hobbled to not compete with the flagship 1DX

I think if there was some amazing sensor innovation it would have been announced by Cannon by now, so we can probably expect the same sensor performance as the D610, which at this price point is disappointing.

I agree it is not a consumer grade camera and is aimed at either 6D1 owners wanting to upgrade or canon APSC owners wanting to upgrade to full frame.

I am a APSC owner and would love a FF camera. However the 6D2 will be an expensive option even after 6 or 10 months later when the price comes down.

So I am looking at used Sony A7 ( though I would love the A72 ) for FF if I can get a used reasonable priced canon lens to E mount adapter as I have 4 canon glass lens of which only one is for APSC format. So a reasonable priced FF DSLR or mirrorless I would love to do for indoor shoots for the low light performance.

Your moaning about the brand new price of canon new to market full frame camera because you can get an old model Sony second hand for less strange price comparison!

Yes, £1,520 (local equivalent of to be exact) will be the retail launch price. Could actually be cheaper on the day, or maybe they'll do their usual thing and chuck in a memory card and/or camera bag/umbrella/t-shirt etc.
I visited my local Photography Shop today and the pre-order price using todays exchange rate is £1,501, plus you get a *Free* Lowepro Flipside Trek BP 250AW bag thrown in as well.

Price is a driving factor these days as most camera's have the next generation some 24 months later. Unless you are a 7D or 7D owner then you wait 5 years. Foe me I need a FF camera for doing gigs inside in very low light entertainment. Plus I have started doing a lot more video and APSC sensors offer a lot of quality over a smart phone. Where the smart phone is very use to use, with and connect to various media accounts. So for me I would love a FF camera that I can use my canon glass on to keep the cost down. As I would not be using the FF as my default camera.
So yes price over features is very important . What puts me off the sony is the quirky menu system as not only have got to learn a new menu, also a menu that is not use to use.

Plus I thing canon and nikon are sticking to design formats that are very old concepts. The market is shifting and a lot more people are albe to afford a DSLR or very decent capable mirrorless camera. So requirements are greater and more diverse than say 5 or 8 years ago. Vbloggers, media companies using cheaper cameras rather than 10k cameras for filming TV series or films. So to me it seems what traditional dslr was used for has shifted and therefore canon and nikon should also be able to give more features in what is a rathee large body !

So basically you are saying canon should deliver the features you want at a price you are happy to pay, interesting business model!

That would be ideal,...ha
I believe people expect a bit more from their kit now. we are in the world of smart phones & tablets that can do an awful lot more than just send a text and make a call.
One basic feature I think should be on the camera is USB charging, why has this not happen yet ! ?
Even people who do not travel will find just charging their camera so much easier as nearly everyone has a smart phone charger.

You can if you are in the market for a camera now

It is on some cameras, however they tend to be smaller cameras with tiny batteries compared to DLSR. Possibly something to do with recharge rates? I don't know not an expert on these things, but it can take a few hours to charge DLSR batteries plugged into a mains charger, how much longer would they take with a phone charger?

The power output is the same for both types of charger in fact phone batteries tend to be the same capacity as SLR batteries.

I think it is neweer make a USB charging cradle for the LP-E6N battery which is what the EOS 7D & 6D use.
