The final word
After five long years, the 6D Mark II has some big shoes to fill. The original 6D had it a little easier, with a less mature market willing to forgive its shortcomings somewhat in favor of a full frame sensor in a well-priced body. But things have changed a bit since then.

It's true that nearly every objective specification of the 6D Mark II has been improved upon when compared with its predecessor, while the release price has remained the same. Unfortunately, unless you're a die-hard Canon user with an investment in glass and you just need an affordable backup body, it's difficult to look past all that competing cameras have to offer.

For the same price, Nikon's D750 offers nearly the same resolution, loads more dynamic range and a far more sophisticated autofocus system. Same goes for the Sony a7 II, though that camera is even cheaper. The Pentax K-1 is an incredible value and gives you even better build quality, unique and innovative features like Pixel Shift, and far more resolution. The only thing that makes the EOS 6D II stand out is Dual Pixel AF, which turns out is only of real value in this camera when shooting single shots of slow-moving subjects or HD video.

Let's be clear: The EOS 6D Mark II is, like so many other cameras, capable of outstanding images in the right hands. But even considering all the traditional Canon bonuses like great color, ease of use for video capture and comprehensive lens ecosystem, the 6D II falls too far short for us to recommend it over the competition, and therefore it doesn't merit our highest awards.

Perhaps Canon thought the original 6D1 owners would just simple upgrade !

I have watched many YouTube reviews of the 6D2 and read few online ones and the main theme is the camera is too expensive and way behind the competition in features & spec !
Nikon have a number of FF DSLR's below the Pro level, were canon have only the 6D, and Sony are not too far away from achieving the Pro level with the A9.
For me I want a FF camera for gig venue shoots were my APCS 7D struggles. I was hopping for either a cheap 6D1 as most people would flock for the 6D2, now I think that will not be the case.

This is it for me. I loved the 6D but the 6D2 but I could get way more for the money by switching to Sony or Nikon, a used A7Rii costs less than a new 6D2.

Not sure how the DR got worse - its one of the selling points of buying a 35MM frame dSLR.

Canon will no doubt sell loads of these,as people won't bother looking at reviews since it is a "Canon".

Not even Nikon or Sony has that brand power apparently.

The casual shooter, the ones that just read the marketing material will buy this.

Anyone else above this, the enthusiasts, the semi pros and professionals will stay away I expect. They will either go for a Sony A7R2 with and adaptor, get a 5D3 or save up more for a 5D4.

It's not best at stills, its not best at video, its not really great at anything. Shame really.

Its a lot of money for a camera for more casual picture taking though - I would argue getting a 7D would probably make more sense!!

If you are one of those who goes into jessops and falls for the sales pitch that FF is automatically better...then you will see this as the only option, as the 5D3 is technically replaced and superseded.

I own a 7D1 and though it was great when it was released many years ago. The DR was still limited as it is APAC, plus the sharpness is affect by the AA fliter. Nikon had AA fliter in either the D600 or D700 and it got cain for sharpness. So the next model release had it removed.
Canon just are not listening to there fans and customers. The competition ie Sony are listening and over recent years have addressed a lot of concerns. There a few more to sort that most people comment about ie battery life and 2nd SD slot.
The later should be easy to add on the next model. Battery life may still be an issue, so take more spares with you is the easiest solution !
7D2 is a great option as it has a lot goid spec. Still the AA fliter though, so I would hope canon remove this in the 7D3.

IMO canon just need to up their game. As smart phone industry has developed smarts phones at an amazing rate. The tech involved can be included in dslr's. Why are big 2 so reluctant to evolve at a quicker pace as that is the norm now !

Tbh Nikon seem to be adapting to the market, the new D850 has 4k video with no crop factor, 9fps at 46mp, an electronic shutter and a 153 cross point -4ev/-3ev af system with large frame coverage!

I have read an article that Canon are going to make a mirrorless FF camera with EF mount !

Why wake up now, canon have seen the market shift for years now and they have been the main manufacture that has lost out to Sony.

Nikon make some great bodies and if Nikon made a body that took canon EF lenses I would buy it !

The main feature of the 6D1 was a cheap FF DSLR, which was compact, good battery life, easy to use, cheap readily available SD card format.
The 6D2 should be a better version of 6D1 which it is, however original brief it has failed on. Mainly because the market has produce much better cameras in form of mirrorless cameras with many great features.
So now the 6D2 is not the cheapest, not the smallest, not best FF performance cheap camera, not the best bang for buck.
The 6D2 might have all or some the spec of its mirrorless rivals ( though in a bigger body which does included the bigger battery ), however it should be the cheapest available which it is not !
