Can't decide..360 or PS3?

as for people saying the 360 is to loud then heres a really easy fix stop playing games with the volume on you tv turned of ffs, even having the 360 near the tv if you have the volume on moderate then the 360 can not be heard

im not sure why people saying this would aggrovate you, but tis well known some 360's are much louder than others. mine isnt all that quiet when spinnig game discs, but its still quieter than my friends - his is LOUD. but then again when spinning movies or playing games of the hard drive, its quieter than my ps3 - so its swings and roundabouts.

but still, just because you cant hear yours.......

Key words: bigger and better. And while some will argue about better (although not me), the way you writ that first post made it sound like the PS3 has a very lacking games library. And this is what I feel is untrue.

it IS bigger and it IS better. the ps3 had some great games this year but that does not make it better than the 360's catalogue. and because the 360 user base is that much bigger the amount of second hand games to be had is also much higher. 4 for £20? thats prewtty damn good value. Also note that if i felt the ps3 had a severly lacking library, i would have said so.

And yes I am contributing to the thread by bringing another opinion into it. Your opinion isn't the be and end all, I'm sorry to say.

and neither is yours. it just so happens a lot more people would agree with mine because its an unbiased look on both consoles and their respective pros and cons. i also asked if you had something better to contribute:)

PS3 surely as its got a bluray player. The 360 is a great console, but there are more games to come out for both in the future and I'm sure you arn't the type to cry over not being able to play some games.

I bought a PS3 recently for three reasons: firstly, I can't stand the noise and heat that the 360 outputs....

Ummm, you do realise the PS3 once fully running is as hot, if not ever so slightly hotter than the 360? Yes it is noisy when running games from the DVD drive, but as you did admit, it's as quiet as the PS3 when running a game from the hard drive.

EDIT - As this thread seems to be going the way of all PS3/360 threads, I want to point out I have both, I enjoy both, and would recommend both.

Thanks for the advice fellas. I'm beginning to think that a 360 arcade version may be the better option as to be fair my kids are only 6 and 12 years old! Is me being selfish for wanting a PS3 if I'm honest. I'll just have to wait until i can afford that one for myself.

Quick question about the 360 arcade, does it allow you to save games?

Most will probably disagree with this statement but imo if the console is going in the kids room then go for a 360, but if it's going in the lounge then I would opt for the PS3.

That is assuming you have a HDTV in the lounge.

Games wise my 360 gets more play. It offers a better online experience, has more titles to choose from, greater variety, and a shed load more people to play against. My PS3 is used mainly for Blu-ray and exclusives. If I had to pick one, though, it'd be the PS3. Despite the poo analogue sticks, you really can't get a better deal if you want HD movies and a good selection of games.

Heh, then maybe my brother has a faulty Xbox!!! His one at least spits out hot air like a jet engine, whereas my PS3 seems to only output warmish air. May be his Xbox though, so maybe I was doing an injustice.

Like you've pointed out, I have nothing much against Xboxes either. They are good consoles, and I whiled away many (most) of my hours at uni playing on my housemate's one. You can't go wrong with either console, so get what suits your needs.

Oh my ******* God, I give up.
I really don't have time to be nit picking wording in posts.

Last word to the OP: 360 is cheaper and has a bigger games library. You know what to do.

Why did you not just say that at the beginning instead of jumping on someone elses opinion, and trying to say its untrue. Each to their own. This is what causes thread derailments and arguments, The in ability to see past your own opinion and the need to quash others

My advice: 360 is stupidly cheap and has loads of games. I'd go with it.

You can't go wrong with either,

Although you do probably want to see how it will 'work' in your house.

Would you want the console on your main TV, so everyone has to share TV/Gaming/Movies, or are you thinking of putting the console on a second TV/Monitor so that kids(or you ;)) can play on the console while everyone watches TV/Movies?

That has far more bearing on which is most suitable in my book.

Been asking myself the same question lately as i get ready to buy :)

Had a 360 from lauch and loved it, sold in June this year needed the money and drifted away for gaming was just sitting there.

Now i want a console again i am going to be getting the PS3 :)

Points for me over the 360 are few game titles that the 360 dont have Metal Gear for 1one title !, Play TV ! and Blue Ray ! and just wanting to have a change to see what its like lol

Who knows but i might miss the 360 and change back, only time will tell.

Only game i will miss from the 360 will be Gears 2, but i can live with that.

:)

Well when a thread like this comes up you need to give both consoles a fair comparrison. James said "if you want a games console then no." implying that you can't really find good games on PS3. I felt this was untrue because, while there are less games on the PS3 than the 360, the PS3 still does have a great selection of games that would satisfy the majority of people's needs.

Is the difference in price for the PS3 justified?
well, im not sure anymore. if you want a bluray slash games console then yes. if you want a games console then no.

question: is the price difference jusified?
answer: in my opinion no.

jesus, i didnt think id have to explain that post. You were critical enough of it when you jumped on my back that i'd have thought you understood it well enough:rolleyes:

and besides that, a 360 and a bluray player can be picked up for not much more than the price of a ps3. I honestly think that would be the better route now. there was a time when the ps3 was worth the price for its bluray capabilites alone, but not any more when a very capable bluray player can be had for 170 notes.

can i jusifty the extra cost of a console that has a smaller games library if the bluray playback isnt an important feature? no i can not.

I'm not much for the Wii myself but it has to be the best choice for young kids. You maybe able to get the whole family playing on with Christmas being a time for family and so on.

Get both and put an end to these god awful threads imo.

People should be banned from asking this.

We should have a very well constructed FAQ/Sticky about this, and then just point the people at it..

You don't want to ban people from asking the question, there are loads of people out there that genuinely can't make their minds up and need the advice.. this is a forum after all.
