Unfortunately thats the way you read it - not the way I wrote it - Im afraid I dont have the ability to foresee the inflexions you apply to my posts. If you read my last post Ive actually qualified it with experience too...

@Demon

Cheers mate - youve just reminded me why I dont post here - Ill make sure to keep my fanboy comments about DVD drive mechanisms to elsewhere - Ill also tell my relatives who have gone through a couple of X360s (one for the reason Ive just stated) that obviously their children must be retarded for this to happen and its no way indicative of the general build quality of the console...

Ill see if they can be traded in...

What a joke

nvm... I just felt you'd scraped the barrel in finding one of the most ludicrous reasons that make the PS3 a better console.

Being sensible, Slot loading devices have been out for years, had there been a genuine advantage in reliability over using a tray, we'd all have slot loaders on everything, and not just where needed or to be fashionable..

I can say that there was a massive amount of VCR's damaged and broken by kids posting things in them..

All I said was it's as easy (I personally think it's easier) for a kid to mimic you and post an unwanted object into a PS3 as it was for them to damage a 360 DVD tray, which as we know is a PC DVD drive with minor modifications...

I won't comment on the reponse about "their children must be retarded for this to happen", because no misunderstanding of inflexion would lead me to the same conclusion another poster mentioned..

The 360 is the better games console, the PS3 the better overall package. As long as the 360 has the lead in sales then it will continue to be the lead platform and games will continue to perform (slighlty) better on it.

If you truly want a console for the kids, then clearly you should get them a Wii :p

But if you are getting a console yourself, but saying it's for your kids to dupe the wife, then I think you secretly want/need a PS3 ;):p

But the sad truth of it is, is that I recommended him buying multiple DSes and said that both the PS3 and X360 would be wasted on kids. At no point did I favour the PS3 but automatically assumed I did ...

The only reason I mentioned the fallibility is that its happened and considering the end user in this case I actually felt appropriate to be posted...

I agree my last comment about my nephews was uncalled for, it was more off-the-cuff than anything - but the buggers tend to do the most 'interesting' things but thats kids (Ive broken a VHS in my days)...

mods should close threads like these when they get out of hand because one way or another fanboys always ruin them :(

if its about build quality - PS3 wins - no question or doubt at all.

i mean what other console do i have to hack apart a cable so it'll let me use standard features (digital ouput + hdmi).

It did fall to bits fairly easy though as i was banging it on the floor swearing "ave it billy boy!!!" Guess there are pluses to shoddy workmanship after all ;)

i would be worried for the life of the 360 with kids running around - chucking things around etc but i'd be more worried about the 40"+ plasma tv getting cracked/smashed

/strokes precious plasma screen

:D

MS do have an adapter that allows you to use HDMI + Optical, it's free with the Elite and available with HDMI cable as an official add-on..

Of course, you can hack an old HD lead if you wish, that's your choice..

;) I guess when the SDF style PS3 fanboys are old enough to shave and get more interested in girls, the forums may get back to normal.. ;)

oh yeah dont i know MS have an "adapter" lol. £30 - £50 quid :( (new)

Its weird you need a special MS adapter to allow you to plug in a standard quality sound cable and at the same time wanting to use your own HD cable brilliant! Gottta admire the strategy behind it :D

In the next console MS bring out, knowing them you'll need a special "MS dongle" to allow you to use 3rd party peripherals with the console.....

You know my raving makes sense - but you are lost to the dark side i fear

Always worth a watch :D

Just buy a 360 and when it breaks replace it with a PS3 like many have done, that way you learn the lesson first hand and have no regrets. By the time the 360 breaks you'll have played everything it has to offer and probably be wanting more from a console, as well as something built to last.

You can't go wrong with either,

Although you do probably want to see how it will 'work' in your house.

Would you want the console on your main TV, so everyone has to share TV/Gaming/Movies, or are you thinking of putting the console on a second TV/Monitor so that kids(or you ;)) can play on the console while everyone watches TV/Movies?

That has far more bearing on which is most suitable in my book.

This is one of the few sensible posts in this thread, and imo has more bearing that which console has the cheaper/most games.

Sad, just sad..

Or so I thought, then this came along..

:D It's really odd, Ive got/had all the consoles, hate none of them, have enjoyed them all, and just played games on them... if you feel so strongly the PS3, or is that the PS triple is so awesome and all conquering, good for you, you can now spend hours every evening trawling (or is that trolling) over the net and educate as many people as you can...

Be quick mind, I hear the PS3 is being slaughtered in the sales charts at the moment so you must be doing a rubbish job of spreading the word :D

I have all the current gen consoles and the 360 gets the most use for games by a mile. PS3 is used for Blu-ray more than I use it for gaming. Wii gets a fair amount of use when we have non-gaming mates around as everyone can join in.

That said, for kids I would go with the DS option, stops arguments about who gets to play a single player game and means you get the TV to yourself.

As we are in the console section, you would have to be mad to pay double for a PS3 when the 360 has the most games and in general does everything better.

Reliability is the one sticking point from a games pov.

That's exactly the point that some totally fail to comprehend, and will go to bizarre lengths to prove they are right one way or the other.

Thing is though they very fact that they are both as good as each other means the 360 is the one to buy as it's literally half the price of the PS3.

I can highly recommend the 360. I've never had one break on me and Live is absolutely fantastic, as are the games and the back catalogue. The price is very competitive too.
