i'll msn you next week, to try it out

once you join a network (or create your own), you can ping/share/remotedesktop/play games via computername instead of ip address, its pretty damn good software :)
Cheers that'd be great.:)

Hopefully this hasn't been done before.

After doing a reinstall i usually have to start downloading all the essentials again as i am never organised enough to actually burn them to cd. So i thought it's about time i made a cd of all the useful applications i use/need. That got me thinking of asking you guys what freeware you consider to be essential? For me so far i have the usual suspects

Firefox
OpenOffice
RealPlayer
Quicktime

AVG
Adobe Reader
Gimp
Azeurus
Divx
Yuck. I use Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative. Also, Comodo firewall and no AV.

To add to this list:

CCleaner

HiJack This (not on a regular basis, obviously)

WinAmp

CDex

Audacity

Quicktime Alternative (comes with Media Player Classic)

Real Alternative (comes with Media Player Classic)

7-Zip

OpenOffice.org

PDFCreator

PortableApps (many free useful apps, such as Firefox and ClamWin antivirus, designed to be run off a USB key) - The Suite includes a useful GUI launcher, or you can download the apps separately. No installation needed!

VLC Player

FileZilla

Foxit Reader (I'm going to try this instead of the Adobe reader next time I come to reinstall)

NotePad++

DosBox
