once you join a network (or create your own), you can ping/share/remotedesktop/play games via computername instead of ip address, its pretty damn good software

Hopefully this hasn't been done before.

After doing a reinstall i usually have to start downloading all the essentials again as i am never organised enough to actually burn them to cd. So i thought it's about time i made a cd of all the useful applications i use/need. That got me thinking of asking you guys what freeware you consider to be essential? For me so far i have the usual suspects

Yuck. I use Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative. Also, Comodo firewall and no AV.
