Can't really Afford GY F1s, other ideas?

I need 4 new tyres and can't really afford the £70 odd quid a wheel I would have to pay for F1s. Are there any tyres that are almost as good but cheaper? What would competitors to the F1s be so I can check the prices for my car (205/55/16).

Do they have any Dunlop SP9000's in your size? (recently replaced with Sport MAXX so are going cheap)

Or maybe Toyo Proxes?

Can you not get 205/50/16? As I know the 205/50/15 are very cheap compared the to the 55's?

205/50/16 are a more expensive size than 205/55/16 and cost £85 a corner for F1's.

However, £70 a corner for 55's seems expensive - they are cheaper than this.

It's a case of what is the most popular tyre size for that wheel size. For example 15" 45 profiles are more expensive than 50 profile ones, 16" 40 profiles are more expensive than 45 profiles etc.

And Yokohoma A539s, I love em - Cheap, hardwearing, sharp turn in, awesome in the dry, fun but progressive in the wet

Definately getting another set for my new Saxo.

tyres are the most important part and should not be skimped on

I agree but expensive does not always mean best, see Pirelli P4000 ditchfinders for evidence and dare I say it Eagle F1 value cheddars

Wow, have tyre prices come down that much in the last 6 months. I've only just got round to putting tyres I purchased 6 months ago on my 2nd rims. Cheapest I could find then was £85 delivered.

Wow. F1 DS3 (more or less as good as DS2?) £64 before delivery on mytyres.co.uk

Thats a load of rubbish, you should know what the grip level of your tyres are and driving accordingly..

but Pirelli P4000 are not high performance tyres so aren't designed for thrashing down B roads they are designed for curising up and down the motorway in your jag or bmw 7 series same as P6000

Maybe, but I'd go as far as saying they were dangerous.

My Girlfriends Dads owns a fleet mobile tyre franchise so I get them for the price he pays for them

Still a bit confused so someone fill in the blank:

Psycrow can't afford F1s so the next best tyres are ___________ followed by ________ then maybe ________

Which, as we've just seen, is more expensive than many other places, given he has quoted you £70

Psycrow can't afford F1s so the next best tyres are Bridgestone Potenza S-03 followed by Bridgestone Potenza RE050A then maybe Continental SportContact 2

Are you just using internet tyre prices? I always find phoning round and playing local tyre places against eachother always works

I suggest either some Toyo Proxes or Yokohama Parada... a little cheaper than F1s.

I have some Goodyear Hydragrip on the Mondeo and am very impressed with them.

No idea on the cost of them though.

hydragrips aren't particularly expensive. Are very good tho in my opinion.

I got some Toyo T1-R's and I find them very good. Much better then my old tyres on my car. One bonus us the price, only £58 per tyre for 205/55 R16's.
