Can't wait to get my ID card!!!

This is classic Labour spin. Any ID card scheme will be late, over budget, technically flawed, insecure and completely unfit for purpose.

This government goes on about ID cards helping make the country safer from terrorists and yet ordinary people are the ones who have their privacy and freedoms diminished and are expected to pay for it as well.

ID cards are just a temporary measure to pave the way for microchip implants.

war on terror? or a war on our liberty?

That's two of us that understand what is really going on. People really need to wake up, if they don't we are all screwed. :(

I work very, very close to ID cards. I can't say much about it but I will tell you this.

If you think the Tories coming in will stop your biometric data being collected you are wrong. Britain is signed up to the EU to provide second generation biometric passports. Your biometrics will be collected if you want a passport. The Tories may well scrap the ID card, but that just means the mandatory bit of plastic. If you don't want a passport then this is fine, the Government won't have your biometrics, but if you do want one then the Tories will get everything just like labour will with the ID card.

Also there are too many interested parties in getting this information for it not to happen. Sadly we'll have to get used to biometrics collection becoming a reality for the majority of us whatever political party isin power.

I am planning on emigrating before my passport runs out. If they think they are going catalogue, analyse, sell and monitor the very essence of my humanity they can **** right off.

Britain is a very scary place and I don't want to be here anymore. I am voting for anybody but an established party, I beg you all to do the same. :(

Can you not get an ID card for travel within europe anyway?

I have a dutch passport along with credit card sized ID card which can be used within Europe - I thought all EU countries had these

yeah there is a 'small' passport type thing...I've seen people use them.

Don't know if they are different to what we are going to have though.

thing is, I have one of those chipped passports anyway, so I'm screwed either way.

I certainly won't be voting for Labour or Conservative at the next election. And I recently got a new passport which gives me a long window of oppertunity to emmigrate without giving my biometric data.

Does it not have the chip in the back of it? I brought mine a few years ago and it had one =/

Anyone but the established three big parties. Green, Socialist Workers, BNP, UKIP Monster Raving Loony - anyone but Lab/Con/Lib. The more independent thinkers and parties with specific agendas we get into parliament the less chance there is of these frootloops have of getting legislation through. Determine which of the minority parties has the best chance in your constituency and campaign like mad for them, explain why you are doing it and just maybe things will change. If they don't change soon your children will grow up in a world where freedom is just a distant memory where their whole existence will depend on the information on a government database. Worst still, a chip under their skin.

Think it can't happen, history teaches us a different lesson. :(

Oh I know it's fully possible, think of all the 'rules' we have already matey.

Tis only a matter of time.

Most European countries have ID cards that are designated documents (i.e.you can travel on them). Britain does not. The current proposed British ID cards would have three different ID card variants. This would ensure everyone residing in Britain would get one (and so biometrics collected whether you're British or not) but only British citizen's cards would be classed as designated documents and so fit to travel on instead of a passport.

Having a chip isn't quite the same as having biometric data or to put it another way, a chip in and of itself is fairly useless unless the biometric data is taken and processed to be stored on said chip.

True, but that chip does have some thing's on it.

Well, mine does, they take ages letting me through =/ God knows why.

I'm afraid you've already given some biometrics (fingerprints are not the only form). The photo of you is stored digitally and is enhanced so that it is easier for facial recognition systems to match you.

Why do you think the change in recent years to photo guidelines. i.e. sit straight, no glasses, white background, don't smile etc. ? This is all driven by having more standardised images that require less computer processing power to match against.

Why don't they just brand our arse at birth? It would cost less.

I don't know why we put up with this BS.
